Need Help: Travel Trunk Recommendation
« on: April 26, 2013, 04:11:52 AM »

In a big dilemma- I have mucho expensive headphones, but now that I'm moving to Chinaland I need a safe way to transport them (and there are a lot...).  Right now I'm shipping off the cheaper ones, but there are a couple of headphones in my collection I just don't feel safe shipping (mainly all my out of production electrostats).

So... anyone have experience transporting fragile goods? I've done some research and it seems these large travel trunks are my best bet, but airline luggage handlers aren't exactly gentle with your stuff..

I know Frank Cooter uses a massive Pelican chest that looks like it'll last forever.  I think it might come with foam you can customize pretty easily.

I would never trust my camera equipment, or anything as fragile and expensive, to an airline in anything except a Pelican case.  I am always confident that everything will arrive safely.  The only down side is that they are so overbuilt they are heavy even before you put anything inside them.

The foam is set up to "pluck out" and customize for whatever you plan to put in there.

Highly recommended.

Pelican or Storm cases.  Storm got bought by Pelican, it's even more robust.  Pelican saved my Thinkpad from a tank.  No joke.  A little hyperbole maybe, but no joke.

I use a Pelican 1300 for my HD800 headphones and a 1200 for portable gear - amps, IEMs and cables.
