Pirates' thoughts on Senn RS220 and wireless headphones?
« on: April 16, 2013, 03:40:28 PM »

I see almost nothing of it here, and not much in headfi. Those of you who have heard it in meets or shows, what are some words to describe it?

Also, what are your thoughts on wireless headphones? Do you think they'll ever reach the point that they sound on par with hi-fi cabled headphones? Limitations?

I love my pair. They replaced a gamma 2 > b22 > HD600s and I don't feel like I gave up much at all. A little loss of resolution, but surprisingly good for the $400 I paid.

I particularly needed wireless headphones so they fit the bill. Others may have less restrictions at home than I do, but I like the freedom.

Of note, they struggle in areas with a lot of 2.4 GHz congestion. I wouldn't use them in an apartment or areas with a ton of 2.4GHz networks in a small radius.

I got a few guys hooked up with the 450-X.  It's a decent sounding wireless, especially considering it's a Blue Tooth connection.  They were comparable to say something like the HD-25 in quality, but with a difference character.  I did find occasional distortion and micro-details were not the forte, but they were decent sounding.

They are super useful with lots of features.  They are the bomb on conference calls with you cell phone.  They can be used wired, but I never tried them.

I'd have no use for them becaue I'd always want to grab my custom IEMs, but I could see the attraction of a wireless for extensive traveling and these things checked the boxes.  SQ might be an issue for hard core listeners who are going to be distracted by the good, but not great sound quality.

So, if they can get a blue tooth portable sounding this good, yeah, eventually the industry should be able to do wireless right in the future.

Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

What I would like to do is hook up a closed wireless to the TV so you can do dishes/vacuuming/gaming and not have the wire so you can roam and keep up with news/sports/Jodi Arias case, etc.

I use the RS220 for all of this but they are open, of course.

Definitely splashed them while doing dishes and they're still ticking. All of my gear gets "extra loved" if it's used around the house.
