That definitely helps. Thanks! But can it be possible that it will still work well with a headphone that doesn't have a flat impedance curve? For example, I've heard some say the HD800 works well out of vintage receivers, but it would not appear to be a purely resistive load.

It's very possible. IME high impedance Senns and Beyers tend to sound better without higher output impedance.
