I like my Brainwavz M2...well not exactly.  I like the driver.  The driver has good, even response and remarkably low distortion.  They are, however, a rather shallow IEM, and prone to odd resonance issues in my ears.  I did some SCIENCE and distilled these problems down to their essence and then wrote a little thing to correct it.  Those with M2s: how's it sound? Those with other shallow IEMs: how's it sound also?

What's the mod? Added some foam or wool behind the driver?

Never mind, I see it's a software mod. What is it, some equalization?
I used to fix these with a relatively large eq a long time ago - then they won vs GR07. I'm not convinced they would against RE-400. Alas, that pair is long gone to very rough handling.
(That being an accident involving car doors. Doors held, M2 got squashed and destroyed.)

With both the M3s and TF10s, things seem to get more mid recessed and for both, I did not hear it to be beneficial.

Yes, it's interesting, anything hiding mids would break M2 a lot. What those need is mostly a bass cut and some lesser treble boost - their FR is "smooth deepening rolloff" shaped.
Also a bit of bass control, but can't fix that in software. I recall these didn't have any actual resonance bar the generally long decay and minor 4.5k shell ringing. (not a peak)

This sounds like a correction for a lack of seal, V-shaped. Get a seal instead.

They're sealed so tight that when I pull them out, the silicone flips inside-out and there's a huge thunk and I can feel my eardrum bulging outwards, so a seal definitely isn't the problem.  I don't know what's up, but I definitely hear a peak at 7k that's easily 20dB, if not more.  It's so loud I can't hear ANYTHING ELSE AT ALL, and that's what I attempted to fix.

Perhaps they'll sealed too well?  Perhaps my small ear canal is not partial to them?

Insertion depth perhaps? They definitely did not have a huge 7k peak, but such peaks tend to move around depending on depth. I had a relatively deep fit for a shallow fit IEM with those and I used medium-small single flange tips back then.

They're in all the way to the back of my outer ear canal.
