A small amplifier circuit, driven by a 1.5 V AAA battery, but unlike many other headphones with active noise dampening, you can continue to listen, even if the battery is empty. The Beats I have work like that. Batteries, 40 hours, active noise cancellation, etc.

I see stuff like that for every home appliance. Usually a half-assed skimming of the item's product page and then a link to some shady site (or Amazon). Gotsa make money for the honeys.
