No biggie. I've made errors before, but I'm confident of the results since I have two measurements which back up each other (UERM FR and Output Z from ME). If yours is measures better than mine, then it probably points to the fact that I may have a defective unit.

Best case scenario - Purrin screwed up
Less good scenario - Meridian's a box of chocolates
Worse case scenario - What we've got here is failure to communicate
Worst case scenario - Passive Deception

tbh, it doesn't matter.  I ran the LO into the Leckerton and while the treble got brighter it wasn't pleasant and most of all the ME faults remained.  So to me, this is just one of many problems, not THE problem.  AQDF is technically more proficient in most ways based on my ears.  The hype and defense of this thing just goes to show how far slapping on a name brand and gold caps in a device will get you.

Got one from Todd the Vinyl Junkie and measure the output impedance.

Using a 1kHz tone with 0.410 Vrms output into an open circuit

With 32 Ohm lod voltage dropped to 0.167 Vrms for a 46.56 Ohm calculated output Z

With 150 Ohm load voltage dropped to 0.312 Vrms for a calculated 47.12 Ohm output Z

 facepalm

Yikes. Maybe Meridian didn't mean for the headphone-output to be used with... headphones?

Now we know why Meridian isn't getting back to anyone who has asked them.

I'd bet Meridian was focussed in too hard on not drawing too much power from the USB rails, and opted for a high output impedance without really understanding the whole headphone amp thing very well.

I'll also bet this hub-bubb will cause them to rethink it and change the circuit.  Nice work Purrin!  :money:

Now we know why Meridian isn't getting back to anyone who has asked them.

Here's one more they haven't gotten back to.

One thing I'm not clear on, though. The effects of the high source impedance into transducers is fairly obvious. But what about into downstream amps? The Explorer appeals to me for a computer desk system because it has two outputs: one that could drive a headphone amp (the fixed one) and one that could drive a separate amp powering speakers (the variable one). True, it also appeals to me because it's a British-made Meridian thing for $300...
