There's absolutely no incentive for NV to reveal his identity. Even if doing so would dispel current conspiracy theories and suspicions of a conflict of interest, it would only provide fertile ground for new accusations.

Yeah, transparency was the biggest mistake Linus Torvalds or any other 'pissed off engineer' ever made. Oh the fallout.  ::)  It's clear revealing an identity was never part of the plan at all.  Otherwise why carefully hide it and then slam every competitor out there except for Benchmark.  Wouldn't be so comfortable being libelous if he gave it away.
___

That's two $180 amps and a $150 DAC now btw, and I don't think they sold just one.   ;)
___

Based on the ridiculous Miata and oversized chrome wheels, a 17 year old does seem plausible.

Of course, the old Keyser Söze pretending to be a douche bag EE and then disappearing into thin air trick! I should have seen it months ago.

Criticizing not only other peoples designs, but their whole design methodologies from behind a nom de guerre has its share of disadvantages. If he was able to make a clean break from that identity, more power to him, attracting a mix of pissed off people and sycophants doesn't make for a very productive social circle.

I've gone on record in other circumstances defending a professor's alleged behind the scenes antics thinking that no one was so narcissistic or villianish only for it to bite me in the butt. Turns out there are indeed obsessively opportunistic sociopaths who are otherwise quite intelligent and personable. So there's always a chance.

My reading of Occam's in this case is that it was indeed the temporary venting outlet for an EE.

 Hmmmm, is Harold (nwavdeuche) working for JDS labs now?

I don't care what anyone does or if they are selling snake oil or science, even though I am passionate about audio and electronics myself.
Why would anyone care what 'he' does unless they are on a personal crusade ?
If one suspects he is behind a product or brand and feels strongly against it, don't buy the shit but buy schiit instead.

How does Oliver fit in the conspiracy picture and the fact that everyone can make one themselves, poor marketting for a briljant guy if it were for the sole purpose of putting JDS labs on the map or earn the big $$$$.
They only sell some cables, an amp in an altoids can, their own PCB's, the O2 and the ODAC (as does Oliver).

His blog appealed to a lot of people and drew negative reactions from the opposing side.
Yin and Yang .... it's all around us.
It's how wars start in general, hate, intolerance, misunderstandings and envy.

as you were... let's get on with music and audio equipment and have FUN

Exactly. Narcissistic sociopaths, either 17 years old, or Keyser Söze. We will never know. He laughs as we debate.

So,

O2 + ODAC combo:
108.50 x 80.00 29.50 x mm case,
11 oz,
USB and 3.5mm jack inputs,
can't charge batteries,
output impedance: 0.5 (some reports of being 2 ohms actually),
kind of portable (not really)
-> $285 USD

Leckerton UHA-6S.MKII:
70 x 84 x 20 mm case,
6.0 oz,
USB, Optical, Coax, 3.5mm jack inputs,
OpAmp selection,
recharges internal battery (flip of a switch),
output impedance: 0.4 ohms,
portable,
-> $279 USD

Performance?

http://scientistsaudio.blogspot.com/2012/06/leckerton-uha-6smkii-part-2.html

Now, if wall wart is a must:

Schiit Magni+Modi:
127 x 88.9 x 31 mm case (x2), -> O2  (108.50 x 80.00 29.50 mm - RCA case) + ODAC (99 x 63 x 13 mm) if separates that don't stack up
1 Ib (x2), -> O2 (11 oz w batteries) + ODAC (2 oz)
USB (async) and and RCA jacks,
output impedance: less than 0.1,
fully discrete amp quite capable of driving high impedance and inefficient cans,
looks much better than the O2 + ODAC combo,
not portable
-> $200 USD

Without the drama, I don't see how the HoeCombo would get any attention in the already saturated market of headphone Amp/DACs and given the competition.

If NwBBGun wanted to shot overpriced and under-performing products, at $285 I fail to see how the Hoe2 + HoeDAC are the silver bullets.

It is fairly weird that almost nobody knows who NwShadowGuy is, and how he seemed to have taken strong measures to avoid being known from the very beginning. All of the sudden NwPuffGuy disappears. Don't know if all was premeditated, but it certainly feels that is the case.

As far as NwPimplesGuy being a very young engineer just coming out of college or still in college at the time, it's possible, but how does a starving student afford a dScope Series III (+ the Benchmark)?

Good points Ultrabike, but we need to compare with products available at the time the drama started. No Magni+Modi, nor Leckerton at the time. More FiiO stuff.

Well, the O2 seems to have come out around July-Aug 2011 and the ODAC around April-May 2012.

Leckerton UHA-4 was reviewed on Jan 2011 (after being used for about 2 months):
http://www.head-fi.org/t/536982/leckerton-audio-slimline-uha-4#post_7240176

Leckerton UHA-6 was reviewed on Aug 2010 here:
http://www.head-fi.org/t/508076/review-leckerton-audio-uha-6s-portable-amp-dac

Schiit was not into portables at the time AFAIK. FiiO was indeed fairly popular, perhaps because they had quite a few entry level real portable products (not in the $285 range.)

No drama or think-objectiveness with the Leckertons AFAIK.
