I completely agree with Willakan here. Occam's razor, the most likely fact is he really is just a pissed off EE and decided to contribute to the audio world anonymously, then got bored or had other priorities and left (maybe temporarily). Just as presented, at face value. As a software engineer myself, there are many many examples of engineers doing just that. That's how you get the crazy open source stuff like Linux, Mozilla, and much more. Just pissed off engineers who want to make better shit, many w/o attaching their real names to it, for absolutely no monetary gain. And sometimes for other people to sell. And yes, if I was interviewing for an engineering position myself I'd read the company blog, the products, and everything about the products to prep for the interview. Sorry, having been in the engineering world for over 20 years including working with many EEs - the face value explanation is really the most plausible, because the stuff nw avguy has done has been done many times over by other engineers in different areas. As much as 'conspiracy theories' are fun, I don't buy it one single bit.

The second and perhaps more plausible story is that he is a real person who created his rabid fan base with free handouts in order to find a job where the company would pay him partially to do actual work, but partially for his 'celebrity' endorsement, although indirect. Now that he has cashed in with JDS he needs to shed the handout ID because he's in the money making business now.

I could buy this one as 'plausible', but really - a guy with his skillset could find a job doing EE anywhere, and very easily. So I doubt he did all this with an aim of finding work in this space.  But I do buy the possibility that a company  came to him with an offer of a very nice gig from this work.. but that's not a juicy conspiracy theory  :P

Occam's razor is efficient, but not absolute.  Btw, that razor has two edges.  One of which finds the complete absence of a verifiable identity.

Just to be clear, I'm pointing out observations that may appear to be coincidental or suspicious.  I make no absolute claim of knowledge.  Unlike Willakan, I don't know if the sun will rise tomorrow.  So if people want to keep asking a 100-meter sprinter what score they got on the pommel-horse, feel free.  Seems foolish to me but I'm just 'silly'.

The only thing is that I think JDS has a better ear. His CMOYs don't have the slight treble stridency the O2 has. JDS has gone on record in the past with opamp upgrades for better sound. This and the BB option doesn't seem like a Harold thing.  If JDS is sounding more like O2 lately, it's probably because this tact sells with the high-school crowd.

Just pissed off engineers who want to make better shit, many w/o attaching their real names to it, for absolutely no monetary gain. And sometimes for other people to sell.

Harold is not "just a pissed off engineer who wanted to make better shit".  If those were his motives, he would have just made the ODAC, and ODA and no one would have cared because without all the hype and antics, no one would think they were "better shit".  No one would give a crap.  The only reason the amp/dac is popular is because of the marketing behind it.  And yes, it is marketing even if it's message is "anti-marketing".  companies do this all the time to lure in suckers who fall into an anti'marketing movement, but aren't that perceptive.  They just market a lack of marketing.  The Nwav crowd is just as biased and gullible as the subjectivist crowd they supposedly hate.

Nwavdeuche's motives were either fame/ego or monetary.  I see Anax's points, and they are valid.  I could see it going the other way too.  The people at JDS labs could just as easily fell for an ideology with a well framed manipulation.  When you fall for an emotional gratification that comes with this kind of thing, logic often goes out the window inorder for the ideology to make sense so you can hold onto the emotional release that comes with it.

I initially thought I'd take a bigger loss trying to sell my O2/ODAC after I got the Schiit Magni/Modi.  But now, I think I'll be breaking even on my Schiit purchase.  The O2/ODAC followers are too stubborn to think the objective combo would be anything less than spectacular, so I can get away with selling it for 200 I think instead of the 150 I was originally planning.

I personally love the idea of this guy masterminding a year+ long cloak and dagger crusade to sell a $189 dollar amplifier.

c421 is also different from the O2 (in implementation and sound) which is why I don't think Jon is "in it" at all... But who knows... In this world, there are nothing but possibilities!!!  ;D

According to anon, C421 would not fit with his sensibilities in design yet he somewhat endorses it as audibly transparent. That was when I stopped being a minion.

Perhaps it's not any of the above. Maybe it's as simple as that old capitalist motto "anything for a buck".  :money:

Or NWAD is really a 17 year old high school student who graduated and had to go off to college. Look at the timeline. It fits.  :)p5
