The main difference is that the DAC isn't an afterthought.  Heck, the IPS-3 uses the full MPD-3 DAC.  What can be more of an afterthought quality-wise in comparison is the amp.  Integrated amps usually have good to great amp sections, but the DACs always seem like a throw-in.  The Devialet also has the wi-fi streamer thing but I'm not sure how well it actually performs.  I'd love to see an SD card in like the Invicta and then you would really have one box that does/is adequate at everything.

I get really interested by opposites these days.  These all-in-ones are tempting, but so is the awesome Line Magnetic LM-1:

Comes on rollers so I'm calling it a transportable rig.  I'd totally hook it up to a netbook/dragonfly/car battery on one end and a K1000 with speaker taps on the other and walk around town with it like someone in the hospital with their portable IV drip.

That's true, that's why I think (provided you have the space in your rack and don't mind the extra cabling) separates still make the most sense, or at the very least, a dedicated DAC and a high-quality integrated or control amplifier possibly with a built-in phono stage. I think putting the DAC inside the amp along with volume means you're gonna have to cut somewhere, one or the other.

That LM-1 is.. uh. something. Wow. It looks like something that would be used to charge the batteries on an early 1900s Baker Electric.

It's a bit different with a class D amplifier though. The amp might be that small already and simply putting them in the same box is more economical.

Class D is its own ball of wax. The nCore stuff *might* be able to play with higher-end A/B, I'd have to be able to do a swap in the same system to really be sure. The rest of it is suited for subwoofers or moderate level secondary systems where these AIOs would be best used anyway.

Invicta feeding a good pair of powered speakers would be an interesting approach to a small room/home office system.

Like the functionality, don't like the minimalism for the sake of minimalism. Since when have people become offended by having more than three buttons on a piece of gear?
