I have been assured that these sound like heaven connected to a Pinnacle.  If you haven't tried them on one your review is invalid.

Sure if you like your music being colored by tube distortion. Best that the OP get an O2 so he knows what real neutrality sounds like.

RD, have you tried recabling these w/ the stock HD800 cable?

Wait, what?  Why would anyone want to try that?  After all, it is common knowledge that cables don't matter, and if you mistakenly think they do, it's only because you're a hapless victim of expectation bias or confirmation bias or both.

It's all because of the looks of the CVH47, nobody human would be able to pick differences between these and the HD800 on a double blind test.

Guys, I just got a comment from Mr. Coby himself to clarify a few things and I'm posting it in his stead.

Manufacturer's Comment:

We appreciate Ms. Whitney's taking time out of her busy schedule to review our product.  Unfortunately, we feel it only fair to temper her negative impressions with information that may warrant a follow-up.  Unfortunately, this unit was version "A" of our product and gives an incomplete picture as to just what this headphone is.  The newer version has 40mm Ytterbium drivers with a linear 20-20K bandwidth and has a pleather case with room for carrying interesting seashells.  It also has an in-line mic but is not compatible with any current phones.  The microphone technology is at least 10 years ahead of current cell phones.  It also features our new patented noise cancellation system which temporarily deafens the listener with 140dB of static, thus canceling all noise to their ears.  In light of these trifling changes, we would very much like to send an updated model to Ms. Whitney (free of charge) for a follow-up.

Warmest Regards,

Mr. Coby

I hope you take them up on their offer, because the Version B Coby must be great with those Ytterbium drivers!
I am sorry that your review is now useless, but make sure to post photos of the "B" Coby's case, Mkay?
k thx bye!

TECHNICAL ANALYSIS:

CSD attached. Sharp ringing at 5kHz, likely not too bad, although upper midrange is uneven. The bump at 3.5kHz is probably worse, maybe some slight shoutiness to the upper end of female vocals. The ringing at 5kHz probably brings some edge and excitement to the sound, but in this case, probable high distortion (not measured) dominates and prevents a listener from discerning much else.

Treble is smooth. Not harsh at all, especially compared to typical Beyer Tesla. Roll off in high treble is obvious starting from 13-14kHz. Probably results in lack of air. Treble smoothness is this headphone's greatest strength.

TECHNICAL ANALYSIS (CONT):

Treble roll off on last octave is clearly discernible. Bass roll-off begin very early right before at peak at 250Hz. There appear to be a few resonance peaks/dips. It's possible these may be the effect of the plastic frame resonating and not necessarily the driver. It should be noted that the KSC-75, which has a similar type of plastic enclosure over the driver also has a similar dip-followed-by-a-peak around 5kHz.

Does this data mesh with the opinion of the youtube reviewer who said they can go very loud?  He repeated this a few times so I find it important.  Does it go very loud?
