Band members not showing up for a gig - biggest disappointments
« on: September 11, 2012, 07:40:29 PM »

I've been to Herbie Hancock's concert twice here in Finland within the last three years. What made me purchase the tickets for the first time, or rather cross the line of doubt due to high prices, was Vinnie fricking* Colaiuta. I was under the impression he'd show up till I took my seat at the theater and saw a mediocre hip hop studio drummer with absolutely no finesse walk on stage and start pounding on the drums.  :-00

Oh Vinnie...

This crazy guy () was supposed to show up with George Duke one time as well. I like that guy though only for his entertainment value. Not nearly as musical as Vinnie for instance. Saw him once with Duke AND Clarke. That was a pretty awesome fusion gig though.

Not that Herbie Hancock or George Duke aren't pretty damn awesome as themselves, but I was just so looking forward to seeing my drummer idol.   :'(

Anyone else sent angry emails to organizers requesting their money back? "No" was the reply I got, since he wasn't the main artist. Pfft.

You can post good experiences as well. Don't want this thread to get too moody  :)p1

Edit: Didn't realize this would be on the front page. Kind of embarrassing to swear.

Not for the artists that I like, but for my girlfriend's performance, the guitarist is near impossible to contact literally, out of all the calls and texts, he will only reply when he feels like it, which is the worst possible thing that a musician can do.  He has missed rehersals and shows and he is also out of the band.

Sounds like a bad case of lifestyle musicianship  )(

My girlfriend is in this girl group (all from the same pop & jazz conservatory) that play bad ass funk. It's a group of 9 musicians and always this one tends to mess things up. Often she calls five minutes before a rehearsal that she has a hangover or is sleeping over, or just doesn't call at all. When it's a relatively new song and they perform it she's the only one that forgets things and plays notes wrong.. The problem is, that the jazz mafia is watching (the realm of jazz musicians in Finland is so small, so you will be noticed if you do something like that and you're pretty much ruined) and she won't be very successful as a musician, probably. Neither doing studio recordings or wedding gigs.

What kind of music does your girlfriend's band play?
