Love your comprehensive reviews.

I had to copy your style for reviews on this site.  ;)

An 'epic' emoticon would make your reviews even more concise  ;)...

I'd love to see a follow-up from the pirate who got the Mjolnir but had noise issues with it and exchanged it for a second unit.

I mostly talk about music there. Weird.

That was me. I sent my first Mjolnir back to Schiit. The diagnoses here of a potential DC offset issue prompted me to take Jason up on a full refund.

I ended up paying the higher asking price for a second Mjolnir from Schiit's Australian distributor. I've had it a week and was initially convinced the popping and crackle had gone with the first unit. Nope. Still there.

So two possibilities. The noise is symptomatic of "dirty power" (though other amps I've owned haven't exhibited this problem), or I've received another unit (from the same batch as the first) with the same fault.

Not sure what to do now. I think I need to invest in a DMM and see if can isolate this issue. I'm a huge noob in this area. Hopefully you guys can advise.

edit: other than that, I agree with purrin's incredibly succinct assessment. This amp should be added to the prestigious Pirate's Booty list.

@olor1n

Didn't you have a streak of bad luck with the Bifrost as well? Something about the Schiit stuff isn't playing nice with your house. Have you been able to replicate the issues outside of your home?

Yeah I had a bad run with the Bifrost. The first unit I received was a non USB 110V when I had ordered the USB 230V version. Replacement arrived missing the input selector button, had misaligned LEDs and appeared like a rush job on the production line. Third unit would lose sync, causing the Bifrost itself to click like it was communicating in Morse Code. The third unit was diagnosed as requiring a board replacement by Schiit's Australian distributor. In the end they sent me a brand new replacement. The thing now works as intended. No complaints.

My issues with Schiit don't point to a single cause. It's absurd what I've gone through though.

About the "dirty power" bit, I almost returned a Little Dot amp because of this. We use PLC (ethernet over power cables) at our house, along with other shared outlets for both power, phone, and cables TV. We also have small bits of cable inside the walls that have no shielding because it's an old house and they've rotted away. I heard static and pops/crackles while using high sensitivity headphones. I brought it to the office just to compare conditions, and the noise went away. I don't know if it's related to your amp but I guess it can happen sometimes.
