Since I've been too lazy to make an SE -> true balanced doohickey for my stat amp, I've resorted to taking an RTA measurement of pink noise. These are not sealed measurements, so we will see some mid-bass emphasis and low bass roll-off. The RTA measurement method does come very close to the MLS impulse response based FR measurements which I usually take.
These are the mk2s which have more mid-bass and upper-midrange compared to the mk1. The earpad cushion springs were bent flat to bring the driver closer to the ears.
This is the response the LCD2/3 probably tries to strive for. IMO, what the LCD2/3 doesn't do right is that it doesn't slope down gently, but rather, it is totally flat up to the mid-range with a sudden extreme 10db shelf downward within the span of one octave. I feel a gentler constant slope from the bass down to the lower treble works better (this is how I tune my speakers.) Of course the STAX has more air and has a much smoother response overall (considering that the right driver pictured here is "defective" with a fine layer of dish soap caked over it.)
Powered sufficiently*, the 007 is a great headphone.
*I've seen at least more than two-three owners with an SRM323(or other modest amp)->SR007 sell off that combination. I found the bass too muddy/uncontrolled and the upper midrange too forward and harsh with the SRM323.
