I finally got them up and running after getting the cabinets and parts from storage. Active digital crossover bi-amped monitors.

With audiophile cables - NOT!

Beats by Dre cables! Karma points for you.

Looking good. Did you build those speakers?

(you forgot to mention your audiophile Verbatim DVD-Rs, btw).

I got the cabinets a long time ago from some random guy on the Internet. All I did was brace the internals, pick the drivers, and do the wiring. Each cabinet is almost 15 lbs, unlike these pseudo-audiophile mini speakers.

The drivers are 5.5" Seas magnesium woofers and Dayton 1" silk tweeters which are surprisingly excellent sounding. I took these apart about sevens years ago to cannibalize the parts for another (huge) speaker project. Since I don't have the room for big speakers, I decided to take the parts back and restore these. They have always been a favorite of mine with pin-point imaging and super clarity. They really need to be augmented by two (sub) woofers. They are currently tuned to sound like studio monitors - very revealing and a little bit on the dry side.  Crossover is at a lowish 1.8kHz LR4 or 24db/octave. LR8 had integration issues between tweeter and woofer. LR2 sounded like mush.

Can't decide if I want to port them for extra bass. They are currently in a sealed box. I'l post FR and CSDs for them one of these days. But suffice to say that these will be my neutral near-field standard.

BTW the cables are my own DIY. I just used the Monster easy-install banana plugs. Monster does make a few good things - most of them related to cables.

Gotta say, I love the sound of well designed ports.  Just seems like a smooth, more effortless type of sound.  Like the driver feels more unrestricted or free breathing.  A poorly designed port (size/shape/placement)  seems to be more of a detraction than sealed though.

Porting done right is good sounding. These are the only speakers that I've put together that weren't ported.

loving the steel series keyboard there. also awesome work! most i ever got to building speakers was just swapping drivers and working with acoustical damping. don't have the right tools here to do actual wood work. i agree monster not so bad as well. i use monster balance 1/4'' to rca cables for my interface. got them cheap and i like the purple on them. only thing i stay away from them is bare wire. i go to home dept for that since i can cut my own rolls there gauge of choice. they even sell silver wiring here but i never bothered.

Noted the grey foam between the monitors and the monitor... Is it to reduce vibration? What are you driving them with? How low do they go?

BTW, they are beautiful. I've heard of the Seas magnesium woofers. Nothing but goodness.
