This can happen on every on-line forum where people sell and trade gear. This is not only on HF.

To mock Hype-Fi for the biased hype factory it is nowadays I understand and I join.

To categorise this as only on HF and laugh at it because it is not you, no I disagree. The "schadenfreude" is good for a chuckle until you make a similar mistake in trusting the wrong person.

Yep not really funny imo. It can even be harmful to our hobby since lots of people sell gear, it's what also helps make this hobby a community.

Basically this guy sold a pair of grados to another guy. The buyer asks the seller to put in a fake $60 recipe inside the box and to have him send the grados to another guy in the US so that he can send it to China. The seller complies and sends it to the third guy in the US who then presumably, made some "modifications". The buyer in China receives the grados and finds them broken and making humming noises (or was it static?). I don't remember if he asked for a refund or not, but he said that he wouldn't return to head-fi ever again.

I dont think it was mentioned in the post who this guy actually was. But the buyer requested that the seller send the headphones to this person first.

Which is usually a bad sign and risk. I would have drawn the line immediately at the forged receipt.
