Roon?
« on: July 29, 2015, 03:03:22 PM »

Anyone tried this? I tried it against Audirvana+ and it seems to sound pretty good. Interface is awesome pretty, but I fear it might be some really subtle DSP I'm hearing as it does seem "clearer" and the background is way more silence than A+ for some reason. Can anyone confirm either way?

As always, my thanks,

C

I like the interface a lot, but the price combined with the license model gives me pause. Running on my home computer and my work laptop requires me to deauthorize computers all the time.

I tried it out last night and think it sounds good.  Better at least than the sound coming straight from the Tidal app on my Mac.  I definitely think it's very cool (it really does feel like browsing through a record store), but I wish they'd change the pricing structure to be monthly instead of a yearly fee.  Regardless, I'm impressed so far and once my trial period is over I'm pretty sure I'm gonna stick with it.

Happened to notice a 3-month free Tidal promo:

I ended up deciding that I like Roon enough to subscribe for a year. The authorization scheme is still a pain for switching back and forth between my work and home computers, but not onerous. It's not as robust as jriver, but the library information/management capabilities are just outstanding and the Mac interface isn't half-assed like with jriver.

I've decided that I like it. Don't know I $500 like it though...
