didn't have time to hit home dept but i ordered some of that craft foam you guys were talking about. was gonna go pink to make them look absolutely fabuuuulous but, decided not cause these aren't mine so, maybe next time. next time i get all colors of the rainbow or something.

was gonna order the mineral wool online as well but expensive. like 39 bucks for a small bag. could get it cheaper locally so gonna head out home dept tomorrow. probably gonna be stuck there for bit though. i'm like a kid in a toy store there. yea, that's right, i defiantly ride my cart and skip every time i go there. that's how i roll in places like that.

just got my lazy procrastinating self back from home dept to check what they had. my luck they only had roxul mineral wool in 50lb bags lol. it was 35 bucks for 50lb bag for some r15 roxul mineral wool. yea i bought the whole bag lol. comes with 12 sheets of 3 1/2'' thickness so all i have to do is peel it to thinner sheets. gonna use rest of it for some corner bass traps anyways(only have couple corners in my listening room so i have tons left over to work with), but i can see it working fine for stax fine. just have to wait for the lambda pros come in and he told me the stax what they use were some mounts inside, on the side to distance and hold the wool in place to prevent it from touching the driver, or something like that.

i also realized the sr-202 had a protective cloth or foam piece while browsing online , so since there wasn't anything front of the driver and was bare, i took some really nice looking transparent thin cloth found on pair of 1970's pioneer CS-77A speakers i have sitting around. nice and pretty shiny black cloth on the baffle covers and easy to cut through with pair of crappy cheap toy scissors i had. will take pics of the speaker cloth i used later, but right now i need to work on my area for a bit.

Rex would you be willing to sell me a small bit of that (just enough for a single Lambda)?

you don't have to buy it from me. i just make sure whatever i have left over i send up to you. i'll cut a small slab for you and put it to the side for you. i don't feel right selling stuff to friends or people i get along with. i just give it away man.

I will update my SR-Lambda journey when I've added the mineral wool to them

here's couple pics of the sr-202 i cleaned up for a friend

replaced rotted thin foam with some thin transparent speaker cloth from pair of 1970's pioneer cs-77a speakers i took.

cleaned the gunk from the left over from the old double sided tape

replaced with electrical tape

re-screened the pads with some layer of black transparent cloth from the pioneer cs-77a speakers as well

done

cool! will let you know when i send it out to you. i tried some mineral wool in the sr-202 at first with a thin layer but completely killed the bass and made them thin sounding in the midrange and bright. the sr-202 sounds tons better being completely free-aired. super smooth sound, transparent, relaxed top but still sounds like it has some air there somewhere cause some tracks i can hear the air and gave them less credit for their air before allowing myself more time with them and was before i got rid of the foam and cleaned everything. foam must of been affecting the sound since electrostatics are very sensitive with things behind there drivers. or it's possible my head just burn-in to the sr-202.

my craft foam stuff came today,so i decided to cut some pieces and make a layer of 2 for each four sides of the sr-202 baffle. i found some glue stick i had to glue the foam together and also i removed the double sided tape and used the glue instead since it's washable and can come off easy. after getting done with each cup....i think distancing farther from the ear gave it more treble which i'm still figuring out in my head at this moment. weird.

so any changes in the sound pre and post foam?

sounds like i shouldn't bother with the mineral wool?

I think the SR-Lambdas sound awesome completely free aired. There might be a wee bit of bass bloat in the midbass, but IIRC they are a bit more open sounding. The bass bloat might even be related to the headphones, even my SR-404 suffered from it to some degree. I can't wait to try these on a proper estat amp instead of the SRD7; lots of juicy stuff being designed.
