Rockboxed Clip Plus Quirks or user naivete- fixed
« on: July 18, 2015, 07:37:08 PM »

I took the advice of the ship and bought a Clip Plus.  Sounds pretty good.  But I have all my files in aiff and I am not about to transcode  :P

So Rockbox it is.  First go round caused a freeze so multiple attempts to use the auto uninstaller later and I finally got Win 7 to delete the rockbox directory.  Installed it again and I am now trying ot put some music on the internal memory.  It shows in Win as a lettered drive but copying files is painfully slow.  I mean ten songs is taking about 15 minutes.  Do I need to reboot into Sansa firmware and change the usb setting back to autodetect?  It seemed to write a bit faster to load files.  Or is there a setting in Rockbox I am missing.

EDIT:  Fixed the slow loading problem, seems rockbox is just dirt slow and even though windows said it deleted files they were still there leaving not much room to add the new stuff.  Booting to standard firmware and we now get an albyum transferred in 2-3 minutes.

And when it comes to visibility I am using 14 point font yet part of the upper test display is yellow and blue.  Anyone know of a simple theme that will allow a larger font and keep the colors separate.

I hope this sound even better when fully rocked, cuz it ain't what I would call very ergonomic or user friendly.

I'm a big Rockbox fan, but it isn't exactly the most user friendly thing in the world to set up and get working the way you want.  It makes foobar look like Jriver.  I think it's more powerful features make it worth it though.  I have 2 Clip Zips and they're both Rockboxed.  I haven't had any problem with either of them running slowly though.

I figured it out.  Seems windows did not delete files I had selected.  When trying to add more files, the clip was looking for where to store and writing very slowly.  I liked the sound overall, but a test flight outside on a walk and trying to navigate to pick some folders was a disaster.  My eyes are way too old.

Sound wise it is very nice.  Not better than my current phone but different.  There are things I like and dislike with both.  At the end of the day, I will have to stay with the phone.  Not perfect sound wise but good and I can see it to find files.

Anyway the Clip is up for sale, thanks for the help.

I believe there are different Rockbox themes you can download. One may have larger fonts.

This is the big dilemma with the Sansa. It's compact size is it's best feature & it's tiny display is it's worst. I just put up with it because the idea of carrying my phone everywhere doesn't do it for me.
