Suggestions for cheap noise canceling headphone
« on: July 08, 2015, 06:19:35 PM »

I have a friend that flys about twice a year. Not an audiophile. He is looking for an over the ear NC headphone for a $100 or less. He was thinking of the Senn PXC 250 II , but read that they break easily. Can't handle IEM's. Any suggestions Pyrates?

Edit: SQ is not a priority. He can't hear the difference. Isolation is more important.

You really can't have a good sounding and good isolating NC headphone, that pretty much doesn't exist. If you don't care about SQ at all, check out some of the Audio-Technica models, they isolate pretty well from what I recall, though you should check the measurements done by Tyll and Brent Butterworth.

The Audio Technica ANC7b can typically be found for about $120. I don't think you can do much better at that price point. Cheaper NC headphones tend to do more harm than good; I feel like they actually create a constant pressure on my ears.

Ugly option: spend $85 on a good iem, $15 on a cheap no-name NC headphone to wear over top.

Do you think there may be an acoustic leak from the jack hole? ~Tyll Hertsens

Not sure if I like stuffing one hole or both holes. Tending toward one hole since both holes seems kinda ghey ~Purrin
