Yeah something about it just sounds really nice. I know the PortaPro uses a different driver, but I really love them too. Something about their sound is engaging and fun. It reminds me of listening to music growing up. I don't know how to describe it any other way than a very "90s sound" despite it being around before the 90s.

That's a good way to put it! When I use the 75's, I'm never looking for detail or lost parts in the song. It just allows me to listen and enjoy, and for that I appreciate them.

Kicking back and enjoying is exactly why I love my Audio Technica Ad2000 despite them not being very technically proficient. The HD600 are pretty great in this regard as well, albeit less wonky in tuning.

Having audition Mr. Ether against the HD800 and I agree with your assessment.  The HD800 really grow on me these days.  The HEK does indeed sound good but I would take the SR009 over it for the same price.  Also the HEK is hardly any better than a properly driven HD800 IMO.

KSC75 is--depending on what one thinks of Grados--either a rich man's Grado or a poor man's Grado.

I used to have both clip ons and they didn't sound so very similar to me. I much preferred KSC35: it's richer, warmer, less bright.

Both benefit from amping but KSC75 more, maybe because it's thinner and cooler.

TH-900 is pretty good imo, damn clean for a rather closed headphone. Fast decay, very low distortion. Best affordable High End Bass Bomba evah.

That TH900 looks nice, is there an open back headphone that's similar to that bass-wise/clean sounding? Or is there another closed back that has the same amount of bass but with better mids?

Maybe Abyss, although Abyss isn't as extreme in the sub and lower bass as the TH900. Darth Beyer (closed) might also be a possibility, but with the Darths based on DT770 drivers, not too keen on that. You could ask the Darth Bayer guy to make a version based on the DT880 250/600 ohm. That would give you better mids with monster bass. I don't think the Darth Beyers will sound as clean as the TH900 though.
