Thanks guys. My current setup is a Schiit Modi 2 Uber into a Lake People G109. I also have a MF v90 dac, RSA HR-2 and Lyr 2. At work I usually go with my UE18 pros and sometimes Focal Spirit Pros but even my wire frame glasses kill the Focal’s bass and they don’t fit my huge head quite right. The Lyr has a hiss with my ciems. The G109 is definitely lacking in the bass clarity/excitement category and the dark amp with dark iems is a bit much (muddy?), even though I tend to prefer a darker sound. I’d really like to get off the gear carousel sooner rather than later. I'll check out the Leckerton stuff.

Also, you should buy the leck.

Yeah, most desktop amps are not tested much for IEMs, even the ones that boast "quiet enough to drive your sensitive IEMs" despite being able to push multiple watts. The reality is a very good portable amp will probably suit your needs better (and be portable).

The Leckerton everyone here talks about/uses is the UHS-6S w/ ADA4627-1B opamps. It is legitimately amazing. It is discussed in its own measurements thread, and in the Pyrate Leaderboard thread.

Your only problem is that it is "temporarily sold out" and speculation is it might be permanently sold out as a successor is in the mix. I suggest you lurk the FS threads and get one when you can, or see if jexby will arm wrestle you for the right to buy soup's...

What would you guys consider to be endgame CIEM amps? Most of my listening is at work, and I have yet to find a full-sized headphone that is both closed (open office), doesn't have its response destroyed by wearing glasses, and doesn't weigh a million pounds, so I almost exclusively use iems. Most top-tier amps seem to not play well with iems while portable amps meant for sensitive headphones sound only marginally better than my Galaxy s5. Are there any top tier desktop amps that are a good match for sensitive iems?

well, you may not need an amp with all sources, depending on what IEM and what source. I've accumulated a number of DAPs and small amps that all gather dust in the bottom drawer, while I happily walk the dog with my UERM and AK120, or take an airplane with ER4P straight out of an iPod. I only use amps with the iMod (now also gathering dust) or the HM602 or the iPad...

What must one do to get access to this top secret for sale section? Am I just missing it?

  • You'd do it for Randolph Scott.

He might be also talking about Head fi's or other for sale places. That said, the Leckerton is the bees knees.

Just to make sure I'm not going crazy... People generally recommend using a separate dac with the lekerton, so say with my Modi 2 I'd need to use an rca to stereo plug adapter? Isn't that against like every audiophile law ever?

I've owned quite a few portable amps. any portaphile amplifier I would consider endgame. they are simply fantastic. downside to the 627micro is battery life which is only 4hrs. per charge. that was the main reason I sold it. im currently using a leckerton audio UHA-6S.MKii and that's a great choice also with much better battery life. all Justin's amps at headamp are all great choices as well. in particular the pico-portable.

I never understood the thing about portaphiles. Tried once a 627 I think, took all 30 secs to stop listening, the hiss was deafening on my CIEMs.  :spank:
