Audio-GD DAC 19 10th Anniversary
« on: April 29, 2015, 12:49:54 PM »

Very tempted to get...may be the last single ended one that Kingwa will make due to cost of the 1704UK chips

Anybody eyeing one of these?

Is it because of Stillhart? I dunno... $640 + shipping can get you a nice used vintage dac + usb/spdif converter or a decent used DS dac (gungnir, emotiva dc-1, x-sabre). There are other options like the Geek Pulse or the gamma 2, but I haven't heard those so I can't say how they compare.

Sounds like fuckin' opportunism from AudioGD ...

A few years ago they announced all their PCM1704uk dac would be discontinued and that Audio-GD will release more and more sabre dac.

Now sabre dacs are seen as Evil for more and more people and the Hype train runs for R2R. then, Audio-GD found miraculously a hidden stock of PCM1704 uk and released another time their old DAC 19 ? wtf ?

i'd much prefer to give my money to Metrum who made R2R dacs for a long time now. They have a much more honest behavior IMO.  I think I even prefer Metrum home sound.

I don't know if a stash just dropped from heaven but I do suspect that TI's accountants saw their old stuff selling several times more than newer offerings. Miraculously, 1704s become available from TI again...for a price.

Stillhart or not there's a bit of hype on R2R everywhere also.

I'm curious to try, but even used DACs are getting crazy expensive. If I can get them in Asia.

to be honest i was a little tempted too but I think everyone else is right other r2r dacs would probably be better.  Reports are that the usb implementation on the audio-gd dacs still suck. So you'll still raise the cost of this device.

talked to some ex national guys at TI, there's enough of these that Kingwa's minimal sales won't put a dent in supply any time this century.

Kingwa's been pulling off that same line over and over like Peter crying wolf for five years now.

Well, I pulled the trigger.

I don't there's a good chance of me finding a Theta for a decent price this side of the Pacific. Shipping is reasonable when I got the quote so that's a consideration, along with 230v (since I did consider getting used stuff from the US but that would involve transformers).

I hope it doesn't suck LOL

From Stillhart's initial impressions on HF it is sounding good

If it turns out to be a M7 or Ygg lite, I'd be happy
