Cavalli Bijou - How does it sound?
« on: April 29, 2015, 11:30:11 AM »

I'm planning to go balls deep into playing around with DIY amplifiers, since actually doing is the best way to learn.  Looking around, the Cavalli Bijou seems like a nice DIY option since it seems a bit more involved than your ECP Torpedo or Bottlehead Crack and Cavalli amplifiers seem to be very well respected.  I remember liking the CK2III very much when I tried it out with the HD600s I have.

The only problem is that I can't really find very much about how it sounds.  Most of the stuff in the Head-Fi forum and elsewhere seem to be about how to build it and what you can do to make it better like making it balanced or implementing the Regal mod.  The most I can find about its sound is that its warm and possibly syrupy (?).  Is this a fair assessment of the amplifier?  I actually like a moderately warm amp but I definitely haven't liked any old or cheap eBay tube designs.

Just go a head and build one.  :money:

I will be building the EHHA rev A soon enough. Unfortunately i don't have anything well regarded here to put it against.
Good thing about these are they won't break a bank.

The Bijou was an awesome build years ago. I paired it with the K701, the sextett and the HD580 at the time. I remember it being better than the heed canamp with the K701, but not much else :)
