My hearing - high frequency limits
« on: April 20, 2012, 04:32:55 AM »

I would like to admit that, unlike 99% of 40+ year old Head-Fi'ers with superhero / dog genetics, my hearing is shot and that I cannot hear past 16-17kHz. It could even possibly be worse now, maybe 14kHz.

A good way to determine how high or how much "air" you can hear is to make a series of tracks, successively rolling-off the treble (use PEQ) lower and lower for a recording of cymbals and high-hats.

I took a tone test in youtube, and I think I picked at 14.5 kHz. It is what it is man... Now there is this friend of mine at work that is probably in his mid 50s. I told him I didn't see the point of > 20 kHz speakers... The man looks at me with disdain and tells me that he "didn't want to brag" but he can hear past that...  ???

Yeah right...

LOL! I can hear up to ~18.5-19kHz. Anything past 19kHz and it's dead silent to me.

Just did the YouTube one. Got up to about 17.5k before I stopped hearing. Is there even any musical information that goes that high?

I gotta start bringing earplugs to rock concerts. Those can get brutal. I've been to some where my ears are still ringing three days after.
