Armaegis, I feel you on the room mates. One of my suitemates is an International student from China. He's a freshman and has no fucking clue about how to talk to people around here. He also seems to be super rich and never had to do chores in his life. He doesn't exactly do anything "unclean"... but I can't help but hate him. Just gives me a really bad impression of international chinese students (I'm chinese myself)

Sorry for the rant.

My previous roommate was a Thai international student, and he rarely cleaned up after himself. He would often leave messes on the kitchen counter and dirty dishes in the sink for days while he stays at his girlfriend's place.

International students often comes from homes with strong financial abilities to send their child to a foreign land and support them for four years on top of tuition, homes like that most likely have maids. They probably never done chores before in their life, and it shows.

If you have to simply put the dirty dishes in a box in front of his door. He will learn soon...

Not that I've ever been clean and tidy, but I've lived for the past decade in a place where I can afford to have someone to wash up after me, and I certainly never have to think about dusting.

I'm going to visit UK soon, for first time in six years, and I suspect that they, if I'm not very careful, might decide that I have never done chores in my life

This one time I got fed up with a roommate who didn't wash his dishes and left the pots and pans just sitting on the stove or counter. I took one of the pot lids that had turned brown and scrubbed half of it until it was silvery again, just to show how dirty it was. Later on the guy comes up to me "uh, I'd appreciate it if you didn't wash my dishes for me. I'm very particular about soaps and chemicals... "  facepalm

You should poor acid on the pots and pans for the next roommate who doesn't clean. Won't be anything to clean after that.

And this is why I preferred to live in studio apartments or just with parents, or with a woman lol.

In my experience, guys and gals are equally filthy. Guys tend to leave more garbage around, girls more personal items. Kitchen is a tossup. Bathroom messes come in their own particular flavours of ick.

One time he left about 20 empty boxes and stuff that needs to be thrown out in the common area, stating he'll empty it soon. A month later, I finally got fed up and moved everything into his room,  he throws it out later that night.

Ugh, Inconsiderate ppl are the worst.

Yes they are. I had one neighbour, a nice guy who kept leaving his dishes in the kitchen. The kitchen is smallish and there is no dish washer.

Every time I wanted to cook it was dirty. The first few times I simply cleaned up to make space available again. After a while I simply put his dishes on the balcony or in front of his door. I never mentioned the dishes to complain, only to say where they were. Ever since he cleaned up. Or kept the dishes in his room.

No complaints...
