OK, so not Crimson related but am referring to Marv's tube post, I picked up some of those Telefunkens for the Valhalla 2 before reading this, and they do indeed have so many sweet qualities. I didn't do a direct comparison, but my memory wants to say these are a touch less warm sounding than the stock tubes on the V2. Seemingly quite neutral, but very natural and effortless sounding. More air, larger soundstage, more 3D, more resolving, more nuanced and subtle, more likely to fool me into thinking things are real. On the mellower side of things but not too laid-back. Never particularly harsh, but not dull either. HD650 is pulling out things I didn't think it would be able to before.

My only complaint is that in my very limited experience with tubes, some can really give the Senns balls (i.e. bass slam). The Teles are not those tubes. Really wish they had some more bass slam but are beautiful sounding otherwise.

yes, I've noticed this drawback with the Telefunkens in my Torp as well.

Same in my Project Ember too. I moved back to Holland Amperex Orange Globes to get the slam/attack back. Not as good air and staging, but no serious loss of resolution and it brought back what I was missing.

I'm glad I have the Telefunkens though because I'm sure I'll vacillate back and forth between them.

Oh good, so I'm not crazy! :)  The Amperexes are actually what I was thinking of trying next. Anyway, sorry for getting a bit OT.

I did a bit of tube rolling on the Lyr1 and quickly settled on the Amperex. Have not used any other tube since it hits my sweet spot. Currently using it on the Project Ember. A bit OT, sorry.

Alex recalled the loaner Crimson before this last meet so I never got to run it through its paces. We'll need to wait for another unit to continue the loaner program.

Hi can someone advise if this tube E188CC/7308 Telefunken http://www.partsconnexion.com/78932.html offer a better holographic imaging as compared to Telefunken EC88CC/6922 recommended by Marv? I just thought that the current price on the tube is really good so might be worth a shot?

Hell no! Was this tube tested? What was it tested with? How about microphonics? Too many unanswered questions to justify dropping $175. NOS just means that it tested strongly, not that it's a good clean-sounding tube with tightly matched triodes.
