Tube Buffer/Preamp recommendations
« on: February 11, 2015, 10:51:50 PM »

Hi here. I am looking to add some tube sound into my solid state system (Audio-gd Master 7 > Master 9 > Balanced HD800)

Is there any good tube buffer or preamp that I should look out for?

I have only tried one tube preamp, and for some reason, it does make end result better. Despite aditional stage.
No idea how the Val2 would perform.

You could try the Project Ember from Garage 1217. I use it into my Marantz PM6004 & it sounds glorious.

I have Audio-GD NOS1704 and NFB-7 -> M1 -> M3 -> speakers using the IFi iTube with .5M Morrow cables. It is quite amazing what the tube brings to the mix without having any identifiable tone signature as far as I can tell... difficult to explain, makes the music more relaxed or comfortable. Also you may be able to use some of the other features but note it is not balanced. It does run hot though in case that would be an issue for you.
