Yeah, I'm fairly confident mine is Rev.2. At stock, it doesn't sound that bassy. Kinda neutral... but with a ton of body and thickness. It was frankly a bit too full, so that's why I started modding.

My LCD-2 rev2 is the same look as yours.  All wood cup with the cable connectors angled slightly forward instead of straight down.  The Audeze graph for mine is dated 9-1-2011.  I believe it was some time in 2012 that they switched over to using the metal triangle thing for the cable connectors on the LCD-2 rev2.  But I could be wrong on that.  It's difficult to remember and keep track of the Audeze changes.

Yeah... thanks for the confirmation, Hammy!

Anyway, I investigated that peak at 8KHz... by placing the mic at different positions, and then I found out it's a problem with my coupler. It places the microphone too forward, so reflections caused the peak to be much higher than it is. I'm not sure if this applies to all of my measurements, or just the LCD-2, but... will look into it.

On the other hand, there was still a problem with brightness on my tuning a while ago that caused a rise at 10KHz that localized to that 8KHz on the mic for some reason. Dropping this peak allowed things to calm down and even out. The LCD-2 now sounds darker than the HE-560 again... just as it was, but still with significantly more resolution.

So... thanks to Hans for catching me on that. :)

Attached a FR graph of one original position (how my coupler is built), and then an additional 6 by intentionally shifting the headphone on the coupler. If we take the peaks of all of those then that makes everything from 8KHz and up fairly even and flat... save for resonance at 8KHz, which I think is the ortho wall on my pair since I also measured the same on the left side.

Edit: for perspective:
Original is slightly forward from where my ear actually is, since the LCD-2's ear pad has a hole that's a bit further back than dead-center, which is how I made the coupler.
Pos #1-3 is shifting backward, and I think #2 is more representative of where my ear is
pos #4 is all the way in the back (not realistic)
pos #5 is all the way in the front (also not realistic)
pos #6 is shifting the headphone upward, which means the mic is now close to the bottom.

Oh yeah. Well... why not. Here are 2 averages from the same 6 positions.

(Note: all 6 showed that dip at 13KHz at stock for some reason...)

 headbang

Edit: and subjective listening since I missed stock:

Well, not bad. Smooth and relaxing, but a bit too dark, a bit muffled.
Modded: resonance at 8KHz isn't noticeable. CSD shows the same resonance at stock, just not exacerbated as a result of my efforts to bring 10KHz up. Strangely enough, I think the effect of the upper midrange dips and peaks being evened out by my front damping scheme does show through, and the modded headphone sounds a bit less tinny/harsh as a result. But the modded pair does tend to sound slightly bright.

I got a chance to hear these at CanJam. They were perhaps my favorite, I was really surprised to like them as much as I did. Now to find some old LCD-2.2s ...

How can I tell revisions? I want to buy an Audeze LCD-2, while my own lays in pieces in a box, and attempt this mod with possible variations.

Is this a revision one or two ...

I've got a pair of LCD-2.2s.  Would you consider modding them and perhaps using them for more objective mod comparisons with your set?

@Kap, hah I saw that ad on CAM too. The seller says rev2, but it looks like a rev1 housing, and his feedback shows him buying a rev1 as well.

Do you think there may be an acoustic leak from the jack hole? ~Tyll Hertsens

Not sure if I like stuffing one hole or both holes. Tending toward one hole since both holes seems kinda ghey ~Purrin

Lol yeah, I was interested since it's local, but if it's rev one, I'm no longer interested, because I already have a rev one with a broken cup and connector, like first release LCD-2 rev 1 lol ... But yeah, thanks for the detective work :D
