The Gushing Thread
« on: January 14, 2015, 09:04:07 AM »

You just got a new headphone you've been saving/looking for forever. You absolutely fucking love it. None of your friends are audiophiles and talking about headphones annoys them. You have no suitable thread to post impressions on. What do you do?

Instead of driving yourself up the wall trying to hold it in, post here.

DISCLAIMER: We all know that first impressions are not always reliable. We all know that something can sound wonderful one minute and complete shit the next. We all know that there can be quite an extensive "honeymoon period" with new toys. So, to all readers: YMMV, take these impressions with a grain of salt. This is just for fun.

I'll start.

Sansui SS-100:

I have been searching for one of these for almost 3 years. I finally managed to pick one up in immaculate condition for just under $550. I've had it for a week now. Oh my God. Ortho HD600 with bass and no tizz. So fucking open and natural sounding, ridiculous layering of details and space. Tight and clean all across the board. Makes everything sound alive and real, no matter what genre/instrument. Lush, yet clear. Relaxed, yet not dull. Bass is potent but controlled. Incredibly smooth from top to bottom. And all out of a measly Objective2, no less. I can't believe how nice these sound given the lukewarm opinions I've heard as well as my past experience with the Fostex T50/NAD RP18. I honestly think I might've found the headphone I can live with for the rest of my life, which is quite surprising as I've never been particularly fond of planars. I was actually expecting to be severely disappointed with this headphone due to what I heard from my RP18 a few months back, but these sound entirely different. Just, wow. <3

Taks,

truth be told, I loved the look of the HPs. What are the size of these drivers? And how is the comfort with respect to weight? I am not worried about the weight as I use the Audez'e for an extended period of time.

So sweet and tangy. Great texture and layering. Flavor is potent but controlled

Definitely a buy

70mm transducer, 60mm active diaphragm area. 6 microns of mylar/polyester with an aluminum(?) trace. Impedance is 75 ohms nominal (15 ohms higher than the other Fostex-made large planar drivers). 94dB/mW SPL, 250mW rated input (max input 600mW).
