Ok, then present me with an amazing grain-free recording and it should sound slightly grainy on my "technically incapable" HD800 rig. I don't have any Stax to compare here but I suspect the essence of the effect will be there for me.

Track 37 on this CD.   ;)

You've never heard me say the Dynahi is my fav amp for the HD800 because I'd never say it.  I've said it's my favorite SS amp, my favorite amp for orthos, and possibly said it's my favorite dynamic amp.  As a specific pairing with the HD800? Uh, no.

Uh yes I have, at least twice. I certainly didn't imagine it. Not that it's even relevant tbh. Probably best to just leave it at that then.

Huh ?
If I turn up the volume by +100dB I still hear a lot of 'grain'  :P

At this point, I'm going to suggest (with all due respect to all) that the term  "grain"  or lack of it or degree it may be heard, may be a function of biology. Our auditory systems aren't understood very well. ( We can only measure our hearing to a relatively crude degree compared to the  equipment we use to measure our electronic equipment.) Perhaps since some hear something they describe as grain etc. and others do not, it may have to do to with  biological differences between individuals within the species.  By this I am including the entire auditory processing system, of which we still know very little. Maybe in this case there is not an absolute right answer? Yes a biologist's  perspective.   Let's not attack biology please. It would ruin the discussion.  :)p4

Or if you engineers  think not,  please continue the debate.  :)p1 :)p1

At some point a functional MRI study might be of use.

Very interesting debate.  :money:

Sorry but English is not my native language so I have some difficulties to understand all what's said.

Code: [Select]
Grainy - A slightly raw, exposed sound which lacks finesse. Not liquid or fluid.
Is the the definition of "grain" everyone is currently using in the debate ?

I would concur with that definition.

You guys over analysize too much. Just need to chill and have a bowl of spaghetti with some extra virgin olive oil, organic minced garlic(lots of it. I love garlic), and pesto. Do I need to start putting people in the corner now?
