I'm looking to give one of these a try. Some have stated that the NAD M51's usb input is a bottleneck so I'm curious to hear if there's an improvement via the U12's coax or AES/EBU output.

I'm betting the XMOS USB on the M51 is better than the more affordable USB converters here.

I have one of these and IMHO beat the Wyred 4 Sound uLink (powered by iFi IUSBPower) that I was using previously.. the U12 offered better dynamics for sounds like acoustic guitar strings and snare drums in my system, and slightly wider/deeper sound stage. Also stock drivers are rock-solid with JPlay. There are other drivers available that offer more features like volume control and balance but I have not tried those.

Hi Gustard owners, I just got one to use with my Vortexbox but it is not playing together.

Here is the setup

Vortexbox->Gustard U12->W4S DAC2 and Marantz SA8005, no sound!

Vortexbox is running Linux Fedora 14 (Laughlin), looks like the U12 receives the signal 44.1k and outputs the signal to my DACs, however, the DACs are not outputting any signal to my amp?

When I use my netbook running Windows 7 and JRiver, they work fine?

Wonder if my Linux is not compatible with U12 even though the U12 is supposed to work with Linux without any driver.

Any suggestions?

I was the guy who posted the thread on Headfi for the Gustard U12 - it was the best DDC USB I had up until I bought the Melodious MX-U8.  I had a bunch of USB interfaces including 3 different John Kenny's, M2Tech Highface and Evo, Audiophilleo 2, Musiland 02 and Musiland USB 3.0 USD.

The Gustard U12 does sound better with upgraded PS filtering caps - I used the Pannie FC to good effect and have some Nichicon HW to try next.

The same for the MX-U8 - I have two.  One with the Nichicon HWs and one with the Nichicon Fine Golds.  So far I like the FG's best.
