Sorry I did not get the chance to follow up or anything. I didn't notice your earlier reply.

I did do some digging and found pics of said tweeter but still inconclusive as to which it is, maybe sl2500?? http://reconingspeakers.com/product/polk-sl2500-tweeter/

Could be a "parts bin" retrofit or maybe even an older repair job.

I want to check them out but I have no clue where the heck these would go if I end up with 'em! One thing for sure AK guys are much different than headphone guys, I see some of their recommendations for headphone gear sometimes and cringe.

The black domes are sl3000 tweeters. The sl1000 is silver face plate with like silver/white/clear domes with like bit of black. The sl2000/2500 are same domes look wise but black face plates. The sl2000/2500 wiring on front is side to side while the wiring for the sl1000 is same as the peerless where you see the wiring in the front going downwards. The sl3000 is black dome with no visible wiring in the front.

Yea, but sometimes their speaker reccomendations can be out of whack sometimes too. For example lot of them love bozak speakers but to me they're god awful speakers no matter what....they tend to love speakers with ok horn drivers which are usually very bright sounding to me. They love klipsch over there too which I personally think can be brighter tone than what I like...they can be a mix bag over there like any other site and people.

How could you tell the pic shows the sl3000? My google-fu is pretty bad. This post seems to suggest 3000 = silver dome (or maybe gold I've seen) and 2500 or 198 = black dome. http://forum.polkaudio.com/discussion/133861/sl3000-rdo-198-1

Is the crossover modding that hard? Seems very simple otoh so if the rdo-198 is surely better than the 194 why not!

Well that's makes it even more confusing......only way to find out is take the tweeter out of the cab to look at the model number. My tweeters are definitely sl2000 cause I took them out before.

The black domes are most likely rdo-194/198 but if it really concern you, you can always ask the current owner.

The crossover mod seems simple and seem well worth it if the rdo198 is same price as the rdo-194.

While im still being pain in the ass trying to gather more information and answers to my questions, one fellow was kind enough give all the info he knew. I have the complete m10's schematic for the modification of the crossover network.

Just before I go all the way and do it I would like further details on the 194 compared to 198. Would like better understand how can the 5/7 just can get away with simple cap add-on for the rdo-198 upgrade and the monitor 10s need the crossover network completely reworked. What makes the 198 so much different to 194 that requires that much attention. Hopefully I can find out soon. Will let you guys know when I get some answers and when I do it myself. This just a pain in the ass lol. I feel like petting a dolphin it's so frustrating/annoying.

This is going to drive you nuts. Yesterday I found a set of Monitor 7's locally at about $60. They are maybe 6/10 condition but I had to walk away as I couldn't justify putting them anywhere but my garage which would be a disservice. Hope someone snags them!

Haha, that's ok. never heard the 7's myself so can't say anything on them. Did they have the peerless tweeters or the sl tweeters? What was wrong with the 7's?

Definitely SL tweeters. The wood near the backs had a couple of chips and the grills were pretty worn. Dusty under the covers. Like I said probably 6/10 condition and I (meaning my wife) wouldn't want them in the house!

I'm no expert but the veener finish on them was really unimpressive. I bet someone with more skill or money could really make them look badass.

Sounds pretty rough for the the price. Lot of models were vinyl wood. The better wood vaneer was optional at the time the monitor 5/7/9/10/11/12 series was selling. I have pair of monitor 10s with actual wood vaneer and not vinyl.

They all have slightly different drivers even though they all look a like. Only thing you can tell apart visually are the tweeters. Some even have different crossovers on same model. The original monitor series went through lot if changes before they decided to stop them. But polk does still have full support for them and still to continue to make replacement drivers for the first monitor series.

Ah, I think the real wood veneer was quite rare actually. There are many places that can re-do real wood veneer for speakers/receivers but I'm guessing you really need to love the hardware to invest in that.
