I plan on picking the fellowing and seeing what other pirates had to say.
I have 3 options here. All from the same dude that I been doing business with. Got my amazing technics sb7000a from him and he completely restored my Harman Kardon HK 700 series set (725 preamp and 770 dual-mono power amp) which he did such amazing job on.
Was at his place and I never saw so much high end Altec Lansing, B&W, Dehlquist, thiel, Maggie's, ect. Ever in my life haha. Saw all the amps he was working on too. Amazing.
I told him im just looking for a second power amp or receiver maybe as a back up. Showed me 3 offers he has available: QSC MX1500, NAD 7155, and a Marantz 4300 all which are restored and like brand new condition.
He told me he let the marantz go for 175, Qsc for around same as the marantz , and while he loves the nad and was gonna be a keeper he'll let it go for 90 bucks.
The nad seems like a no brainer of course but I am curious bout the marantz since I never heard that model before. I heard the QSC hooked to the thiel speakers using the kenwood C2 preamp I traded him and thought it sounded pretty good. The QSC sounded to me like a good performer and considering that.
Nad I know makes really good stuff too but never heard the 7155.
The marantz is the prettiest of course and while I remember hearing couple older models that thought were pretty nice I never found myself spending money on one cause outragous prices. Guy selling it knows their rediculous track record too and says since he likes me and repairs stuff for the love of it, he told me 175 if I find that fair if I want to give it a try.
I know the marantz will give me the highest resell value but I care more bout my sound then price. Im thinking of the marantz just out pure curiosity and since I just need a back up, why not?
What would you do? Im just curious.
