It's been a while... my deck spends more time gathering dust than playing music, except when I get an occasional urge to digitise something!

I have a Musical Fidelity V-LPS II. It is a little dull. Last session, I found there was more life in the music if I recorded it into Audacity and then used Audacity's RIAA-curve filter!

I thought I should mention that we can set the gain to varying levels through a combination of settings on the Gain 1 and Gain 2 DIP switches: 36, 42, 48, and 60db . Or something that like. I can't remember exact values. I settled on 48db to get the similar output level of my DACs. No hiss and quiet.

A little toggle switch on the back turns the thing off or on. This is a nice touch as the Pro-Ject Box doesn't have a switch - it's left on all the time. Also, the quality of the RCA phono sockets was good. Cables fit not too tight and not too loose. One downside of the Mani is that it is lightweight. It would be fun to put in a nicer chassis. And then charge $449 for it. Hahahahaha.

Don't forget the $100 Tranquility Base that not only keeps it from tipping over but harmonizes the electrons and makes them go in single-file. And the extra vibrokonez to replace the feet with.

I would love to see this compared with the Emotiva phono stage ($149).

The Emotiva looks like a good candidate. I'm not buying more stuff. Sort of tapped out now. Especially since I couldn't resist a Theta Gen V for sale. I need to slap on a few more upgrades to the Pro-Ject box. Better PS for motor, acrylic platter, and new stylus for my better MM cart lying around somewhere.

Regarding the crackles/static, has anyone ever tried this?

Nope.  This is as far as I'm willing to go.

I'd love to try a record cleaning machine someday, but there's no way I've got the $$ for that.  Spin Clean is effective.

If anyone at The Show heard the Ragnarok with Jason's turntable, then you've heard the Mani but probably didn't know it.

Surprise!!  :D

Damn, too bad I'm away at college or I'd throw this into the comparison too! :D

I also built one of these but one channel is currently broked: http://sound.westhost.com/project06.htm
Would be curious to see how that sounds compared to all the other budget phono preamps in the competition!
