What if I make my own, sell it for $100, and tell people it doesn't do anything? Would SE or BS respect me for that?

Yes.  That's what SE does with his cable business.  He thinks people that buy cables are suckers (I think this is usually right but not always).  Here, buy mine cuz they all sound the same.

I can see the HOT thing as an anti-vibration "anchor". I mean, why did the Rega Planet CD player I had sound better when I put a concrete block on it?

Rather strange that sort of reverse psychology does seem to work at least with some folks. Schiit makes no performance claims about their cables, but they also aren't really in the cable business.

The "Anti-Cables" sort of started out with that kind of idea (here's some insulated magnet wire that we've terminated for you) but they've since adopted the same tactics as any other cable company, talking about their "long drawn highly annealed continuously cast oxygen free copper with impurities reduced down to only 5 parts per million" which they now sell in several performance levels of increased anti-ness.

Most high-end cables have similar sorts of fairly subtle impacts on the sound as the HOT seems to, and some at least have likely similar markups, but there are a select few that are definitely worthwhile. They also are just as easy to return.

He leaves it up to the user to decide for himself (better, worse, both, the same, &c.) because no one can do your listening for you.

I think that's a copout.  I wouldn't sell anything I don't believe in myself.  I know for a fact he doesn't think cables sound any different.  I know he believes some may perceive a difference when there isn't one based on certain objective standards.

If SE truly "leaves it for the user to decide" then he'd stfu about the HOT wouldn't he?  Why are the cables he sells any different from what SR sells?  Doesn't SR or anyone else also leave it for you to decide?  BS hypocrisy.

He says there hasn't been an objectively demonstrable difference, not no difference.

He says SenRes falsely advertises the product as a "transducer" (and something called "uniform energy field (UEF) technology").
