Wow, I have both the 009 and the HE 6 and would never consider the 6 giving problems with the treble. I run the HE 6 through my receiver and if anything to my ears it hits deep down hard.

Consider the 207 instead of the 202. Or just keep an eye out for used Lambdas on the market, they pop up fairly regularly.
Didn't you say in an earlier post that x07 headphones have a mid-bass hump, forward mids, and peaky treble? Or is the SR-207 an exception?

I should've been clearer: the forward mids (the 1khz hump, which is actually present to a degree in the 009 as well) and peaky treble is a common trend to all Lambdas. However stats have different response characteristics which make treble issues less noticeable (at least to me). The peak isn't an annoying high Q peak like in some dynamics and it's just out of sibilance range.

The bass hump, however, is a property of the x07s, but (again, at least to my ears) it is a welcome one. Prior Lambdas had less of a sense of impact and had a bit of a roll-off, so the new design mitigates those issues.

The HE-6's bass is definitely its saving grace.

I'm not sure if etch and treble is the same thing, but depending on the chain, my HE 6 has a slight hardness with the higher frequencies. Certain instruments bring it out like cymbals and brass. When I added a Placette Active preamp, it dramatically toned down the etch, but when I was using my DAC for volume control, it would noticeable if I was listening for it.

That said, with a top-tier chain, I find it easier to catch details on my HE6 than my 007 MK1s (early versions) or MK2. The 009 is slightly more revealing but too sterile-sounding to my ears.

I don't know about the SR-507 sounding like the SR-009 (haven't heard either), but I did confuse the Lambda Nova Signature for my 007 mk1s once, until I realised that the 007s were in my drawer, not on my head.

Understandable. I belive the Nova Signature is the exeption: Very nice treble.
I bought mine on eBay after reading this:

http://wiki.faust3d.com/wiki/index.php?title=Stax_SR-%CE%9B_Nova_Signature

And indeed! Because the first music I put on happened to be rather V-shaped (= little energy around 1 kHz) I thought I had arrived in high-end heaven. (But immediately afterwards I got very annoyed by the 1 kHz peak, or hump,as anetode calls it ).

The "ancestor" Sigma (from which the Lambda driver originates) also had a nice treble as I remember it, partly because of the angled arrangement of it probably, and partly because  it often was used with transformer step-up units ( always kind to the treble), as in my case.

I hear the 407 is less bright vs the 507 by the way
