HE-400i
« on: August 25, 2014, 03:04:28 PM »

Any impressions yet?

I'm thinking these will be my next purchase, so I'm very interested in hearing some thoughts without having to filter through all the "discussion" at HF.

Heya

I got it yesterday, bass is OK not clearest, I spotted some high order harmonic distortion, but it is barely heard only on high volumes of listening. Warm sound improved HD650. I would say they have slightly more clear bass and more air also.

Plastic cheap built, short cable and fragile cable connectors. Very comfortable, soundstage decent not as wide as AKG Q701 better then DT880.

Kind of warm funny sound not Hifi for me. depends what you like and what you are after from.

cheers  :)p7

Thanks for the thoughts.

Any more direct comparisons with the DT880?

I have a tour unit but I'm not that great at compare and contrast.  They are way better than my zmf t50rp.  I kind of thought I had hit the point of diminishing returns with the zmf but nope, these are a clear step up and not just from being open vs closed.  I"ve had the senn hd595, he300, mdr-ma900 and I'm considering selling something that I need so I can buy 400i :(  like my kidney
edit:  also, these are all day comfortable

I've placed my order with head-direct, along with the focus-A pads. I'm hoping that I get them by the end of this week.

Very cool.

I'm getting a touring unit, so we'll see whether or not I decide to buy after giving them a shot.

As a side note, gunner, you're listed 1 ahead of me on the HE-560 tour.  I plan to drop out of that, so you can skip me when it's time for you to pass them on.

Will do.

My he-400i just shipped out today from HK by DHL.

I've already heard my friend's he-560 with the grill mod on my setup and really liked it, but I feel like I need to spend a longer time with headphones before really deciding if I'll buy them or not.

We're having a meet down here in Nashville and HFM is sending a 400i and 560 for everyone to listen to, so I'll get a chance to hear the 560 that way.  I can't afford them, so it's purely to satisfy my curiosity.

The 400i is a real possibility, though, and I wanted a nice long audition with them. Hopefully my DHL shipping notice soon isn't far behind yours.

Very exciting, thanks!

I'm really hoping these are the answer for me.  I loved the HE-500 except for the slightly laid back treble and a bass that I found a little messy and overwhelming at times.

From what I've read the 400i seems to address both of those things.
