Have only heard the UE TF10 and Klipsch X10 out of the ~150 IEMs.

The X10 are very smooth and rounded and the treble seems to lack extension. It kinda reminds me of a B&W P5 in that the tonal center is lower mids. It's definitely going for a "safe" and "consumer" sound signature.

I prefer the TF10 -- with the only gripe being a bit of recession in the mids. The top end was initially a bit too aggressive, but I'm using the included comply foams which smooth them out. Find them to have better detail, speed and clarity than the Klipsch.

HiFiman's RE-262, based on what I've read & what I'd go for if I ever go the IEM route again. If I remember correctly, the mids/vocals were the strong point, and, not too sterile/analytical.

Yeah I see these RE262s as universally praised. Plus, your BFF from the great white north has these so you'll definitely get "forum cred"  ;)

As an aside, is the Unique Melody Miracle really that great?

No way to the X10.  The TF10 is great if you get the $100 deal.  X10 isn't worth it at that price IMO.  Not a fan of their sound.

What sound sig are you looking for?  Let's start there.

Miracles are not that great, at least the demos.  I tried to run a UM continental USA review program for a while, the demos were so disappointing we shut it down.  Joker says the demos don't sound like the customs and some who have the customs think they aren't that good so go figure.  So far, UE has been the most consistent from demo to custom I've encountered.  I think it's rather complicated w/ customs.  If you have a small ear or strange shape they'll do weird stuff to cram in the gear and shape the bores thus the sound can get altered pair to pair.  For those w/ smaller ears I don't recommend going larger than 3 drivers unless you can get assurance from the vendor that your molds can take 5+ drivers and 2-3+ sound tubes.

For my mother-in-law. The slight U curve of the TF10 may a good idea.

They are a pain in the ass to fit btw.  Have you seen the size and shape?  I'll bring mine over some time.  I'd imagine deep insertion would be bad for her so DBA/B2's wont cut it.

Got it, go for the Vsonic GR07.  Easiest fitting, best ergonomics in any dynamic driver I know.  Slight U curve, less so than the TF10 and nearly neutral but not quite.

If $175 is too much, get the Sony EX600.  They are a less dynamic and detailed EX1000 and Tyll's measures confirm our subjective impressions.  The Sony EX line measures phenomenally.

I wouldn't recommend the 262's unless she's planning to run an amp.

At 100 or less the Monster Turbines are not my favorite, but they are not horrible for the price.
