Why so few topics? Am I missing something?
« on: August 02, 2014, 01:09:32 PM »

Please bear with this noob (this is my first post here), but why are there so few topics? For example under "Headphone Discussion for Registered Members Only" there are just 47 topics. Am I missing something? I don't know how old Changstar is, but I believe I've seen posts more than a year old. The only reason I'm asking is I have this nagging feeling I'm missing out. Thanks!  :-S

We don't like to make topics or posts about how much we're enjoying a certain headphone.

Well you are partly missing out. If you have questions, ask away. If you want to share information or news, share.

Many topics pass here but not every topic is mentioned in a designated thread  p;) Besides, if you need to know something from someone in particular PMs are also available.

After swabbie-status you also get access to the shoutbox and more content.

Edit: my apologies, I made some incorrect assumptions. I had forgotten about the swabbie-status.

that's because you are. swabbies need to get vetted first before than can be sailors.

we do this because we try to keep crazies banned from HF out, or just plain crazies - but we are crazy too.

Thanks for your replies! I guess I need to become more familiar with Changstar and the culture here. For example, I've rather recently bought the SM64 and after having listened to it quite a bit I think I like it a lot. So, I thought maybe there would be some interesting facts, debate, and opinions about it to be found here, but nothing really except rather favourably mentioned in some other contexts. So anyway, I'll just read on and learn and see if I'll stay aboard when Changstar arrives at the next port (unless I'm  walk the plank before).

Not familiar with the Super-Mario 64, but seems like a 3 BA driver available for about $500. I know you like the AKG 3003s which might be close to the Dunu DN-1000 (which I liked) and the SM64 according to ljokerl:

So I could see those would be right up your alley. That does not mean that ultimate perfection was achieved with any of these cutetips...

Don't think you should have problems so long as you get along and don't go crazy with the crazies.

I didn't like it much.  Though I don't like anything.  Might have mentioned it in the RMAF thread.  Many of us long time IEMers here went down the SM3 path long ago and never returned to the earsonics fold.  That was quite the controversial iem.  The 64 didn't significantly raise the bar compared to it or my current references so never pursued it further.

I've tried to recommend it here before as one of the better IEMs under $500 in the pirates booty thread before it was removed (hidden?) for other reasons. There was some discussion about the SM64, and I believe muppet said that she liked it a lot too but it'd be too euphonic for the general preferences here. I've owned one since release and only sold it a few weeks ago. I feel that the imaging is great, but there are problems with the 4-6khz region in terms of technicalities when used for reference purposes. I sold it after I got the Zero Audio DX200-CT and realized it was just as good as the SM64 and had similar tuning. If you stick around, you'll notice that preferences here tends towards neutral-ish sounding headphones and little to no ringing.

In hindsight, the SM64 can be compared to one of those FAD IEMs that go for a particular sound versus measuring well. There's nothing wrong with that.
