I was there all day, but didn't leave my booth. I did borrow a Lyr 2 to have in my booth. Didn't get a chance to listen to it much though. I have all the Questyle gear in my booth too.

And for Pirates, if you want to hear Alex's modded Oppo PM-1's, you can come by my booth but you have to ask for the Oppo's to try them. They won't be left out for the general public.

Also, another tip... If you are interested in any of the raffle prizes for Headphonium, Come by my booth and enter the raffle. Today there were a total of TWO completed raffle cards for the whole day! Um that means you are really likely to win something. You have to get the raffle cards at my booth and return them to my booth to enter.

My booth is in the Headphonium Too or Marketplace II on the ground floor of the Hilton.

I won't be at my booth tomorrow at all, but will be back on Sunday.

Spent about 4-5 hours listening to the various rooms at the Hilton yesterday (Fri). I was planning to come up Sunday, but I don't think I will make it back to check out Headphonium or the speaker setups at The Atrium. Overall, I came out not being too impressed by much. Note that this was my first experience going to one of these local audio shows. I've been to a few mini-meets at local dealers around San Diego county and also RMAF and CES 2012. Both of which I thought were much better organized. This is more of a personal rant, but I found most of the rooms were sounding underwhelming. The size of the room, treatments, and the overall atmosphere was definitely less than optimal. That being said, I was thoroughly impressed in a few rooms:

NOLA - I was actually surprised by these small speakers. Sound was actually quite big, very good dynamics and wasn't bad in the clarity department. Their setup was kind of weird having the speakers face the short length of the room which is a bit fishy. Makes me think they might sound different not being so close. The setup was that the listener was about 6-7 feet away.
Vapor/Empirical Audio - Best I heard at the show.. seriously. Even with the speakers being pretty much new without much burn in, the sound was incredible.
darTZeel - Buttery smooth, the speaker model escapes me but I really liked the tone in that room. Easy going, no fatigue. Spent a solid 20 mins in there, bonus points to those folks for playing a WIDE variety of music.
Odyssey Audio - This room actually was quite good sounding especially for the cost of the entire system. I liked how they displayed each component of their setup on a banner. They were showcasing their own speaker, and they are actually pretty good sounding. Balanced, and quite big sounding for such as small cabinet.
Lampizator - Have to say, their L7 is a pretty big step up from their L4 I heard about a year ago. Of course the system was much different, and didn't cost nearly as much but musicality is definitely the forte in that room. Very immersive.

Few off the top of my head that were poo:
Wilson Room - Brittle sounding, no life, and bright. Not my type sound at all. Music selection was also crap for evaluation. They played nothing but chamber classical while I was there.
Dynaudio - Thin, definitely didn't live up to the hype. I've read good things, but again not my sound, even in the smaller room I found them to be missing a lot. Detail/resolution was good though.
Magico - Again, overhyped and overpriced. Not much to see here other than a cheap enclosure. Bass was soft, and the treble was not well presented.
Legacy - The Aries were a hit of miss for me. Plenty of detail, good speed, and vocals seemed crystal clear. Problem was the bass and the focus. Thought the imaging was lacking.
ESS - These guy fell way off. Grew up listening to my father's AMT-3 and loved them. Bass was almost non-existent. Self-powered driver design? Nuff said..

Will have more to write later today, but I'm beat.

Can't make it this year, but from the sounds of it, I'm not missing much.

Couple thoughts.

-Ragnorak sounds pretty much the same but you need to understand what you are listening to.  It is absolutely their Statement amp and performs as such, that's all I can say about it for now.  Their cheapo phono pre sounded pretty good!  Time for me to dust off my father's old turntable.

-The 845 Vivo amps sounded pretty darned good.

-The Magico and Chord gear crushed the Da Vinci DAC's capabilities.  More so the Magico if I had to guess.  Don't know why they allowed the DaVinci to be hooked up to that garbage.

-Chord Hugo, again, was mediocre at best with a stock Abyss and MacBook.

-The Wilsons in the MSB room sounded pretty decent, some of the better Wislson's I've heard as I'm not usually into their sound.  They were too small and obviously being overdriven.

-Sanders-absolutely my favorite modern stat sound.  I always dig hearing them every year.

-GSX mk2 is still too analytical and bright with the HD800 even using Senns own balanced cable.  Really rough and unrefined sounding.  Maybe listen at low volumes.

-009 on BHSE was meh.  Something was distorting not sure what the source was, might have impacted the GSX mk2 as well.  They both had a similar unrefined sound coming through.

-The VAC room/hall was designed to show off their bass, their bass was weak and imprecise.

-Geek Wave proto board gives hints it might sound better than the Geek Out.  Bit cleaner, clearer and more balanced running off the battery.  It still had the MacBook for a source via USB so once they ditch that it could clean up even more.  The main difference was that the proto was running full power from the battery, nothing from the bus.

Pretty much it, been too busy lately and didn't have more than a few hours to chat, catch up, sample gear.

Sat in a Vector for the first time in my life as it was one of my childhood dream cars.  What an experience.  Impractical, barely usable, dangerous cockpit that is also mind blowing and just pure raw fun.  Crazy car!!  600hp back in 1990.  Here's what they look like.

My impressions from Friday:

* First thing I listened to was LCD2.3 out of the RSA amp (must have been the Darkstar?) and it was bloody awful. No idea who thought that would be a good sounding combo. I asked the rep to plug it into the Cavalli amp (was it the LAu?) and it was much better. I still think the LCD2 is a good headphone despite its obvious faults

* Mad Dog was very bassy, or bassier than I remember. First time listening to the Alpha Dog; did not seem as neutral as advertised IMO

* Schiit booth was top notch as always. Enjoyed both the LCD3 and modded HD800 out of the Rag. I preferred the LCD3 in that given system, although I usually lean toward the HD800. HE500 (out of the Asgard) was lame sounding to me and I don't think it's the Asgard's fault. HD650 is a better headphone side-by-side IMO. Valhalla2 was good with the HD650 and PS500. I'd be very interested to compare Valhalla1 and 2 in my own system, as I did think they sounded different from memory. Didn't give the Lyr2 much time.

* Nothing new at the Cavalli booth. LAu is still excellent. I was more on the fence about HD800 and Liquid Glass.

* HeadAmp booth was a mixed bag. Was fun to compare the SR007 and SR009. I ended up preferring the SR009 with pretty much all of the tracks I was familiar with. Anax: I also heard an issue with the HeadAmp system. It seemed like some sort of channel imbalance to me, but both of the estats seemed to have it. Dunno what was up.

* I liked the Mini Maggie system that was in the Atrium. Didn't like the controlled demo though. Controlled demos suck.

* MSB room was pretty killer, kind of took me by surprise.

* Empirical Audio: Seriously one of the better systems at the show. Another pleasant surprise. Those RAAL ribbons seem to really deliver; I hope to play with them eventually in my own system.

* YG Acoustics room was very good to my ears. Mostly because they had plenty of space to work with I think.

* I browsed the Woo Audio room for a bit. Got to listen to the K1000 for the first time and was incredibly underwhelmed. There were some other good pairings that I listened to through the Woo amps though I can't remember specific combos. What I do remember is that the unmodded Abyss + crazy Woo monoblocks was quite poor sounding to me. Despite all those around me who were singing its praises.

* The Janszen ESLs were my favorite from last year, despite a bit of nagging harshness that I noticed. This year he replaced the amplification with some triode/FET hybrid which was MILES above the Bryston gear that was driving it before. I noted the differences before David even told me that he was using different amplification. He conceded himself that the Bryston gear wasn't up to snuff for his speakers.  So yeah... IIRC the side-firing tweeters are new this year, which is a very cool idea. The Janszen speakers are not only really accurate and articulate, but also have a real coherent quality. My favorite system from this year again. I want these.

* The speakers in the ESS room were definitely sub-par like Greed mentioned. But I got to talk with one of the guys about their AMTs and it looks like it could be another good option to try in my own system if I could come up with a crossover configuration to allow it. Would definitely be cheaper than the RAALs, but not as detailed I'd wager.

* Was hoping more from the Usher + Pass room (under Katli Audio) but it was pretty damned awful. Tonally dull, poor imaging; really not reproducing my recordings correctly. Lame-o

Did Sony show up this year?
In a big way. Headphonium, a shared display in one of the Crystal Ballrooms, and a tower room. They are going all out on the new hi-res campaign.
