music/rhythm games. any fans here?
« on: March 09, 2012, 12:09:16 PM »

i know people love music and sometimes get involved with instruments and so forth but anyone play any games that involve typical beat matching and rhythm? i know guitar hero is pretty obvoius still today some people play for fun. i use to be really into DDR(dance dance revolution) and ITG(In The Groove) when i was younger. went to arcades every weekend playing for over 8 hours straight at a bowling alley cause it was always open past 2am and the owner was cool enough sometimes let me and my friends stay there past 5am playing. fun times. barely do it anymore since i haven't played at an arcade for years. i do still though play FFR(flash flash revolution) online or stepmania on my computer once in awhile though. i use to also play beatmania and keyboard mania. basically all the cool stuff from konami and even modded my ps2 to play import games. seems the popularity died out though and music games not really big thing anymore with people.

i play guitar hero once and awhile. had it for my 360 but pretty much just gotten bored with it and went back to play DDR/ITG/FFR/stepmania on my pc. some reason though no matter how long i'm away from DDR/FFR/stepmania  i have zero issues picking it back up like i never took any time off of it or not and still got it like it's hardwired to me or something. i don't know.

I've been known to Tap-Tap now and then on my iPad!

Coincidentally, I just recently got a game called Rocksmith that's sorta like Guitar Hero, except you plug an electric guitar into it. It has classic songs from bands like Nirvana, Rolling Stones, Lynard Skynard, and David Bowie, as well as modern mainstream stuff that I like (ie. Black Keys, Spoon, Strokes). Pretty cool game. Been trying to pick up guitar off-and-on for a few years, so hopefully this will motivate me to practice more.

When I had roommates, I used to Guitar Hero / Rock Band all the time. Never got into the dance games though since the people playing it at the arcades and bowling alleys looked like trained acrobats doing cartwheels and backflips all over the place. A bit intimidating.

i never did that weird stuff people did to show off. i just played the game normally by fellowing the arrows and so forth. i want to get back into keyboard mania and beat mania but the sets and controllers are so hard to find and very expensive, especially for beatmania cause they actually have specially calibrated controllers for it. i just play on my keyboard nowadays though and that's all. don't feel like blowing another 300 bucks for a cobalt flux pad again.

i saw that game, rocksmith. looks nice. actually interesting in trying it.

I'm considering getting Rocksmith. but i like bass guitars and don't know if the game supports bass. i'll buy it if it does. :D

120 days huh? I still think it's worth mentioning that I'm an avid DJ Max smasher on psp. On 6-button mode got all the difficult ones with good 90%+ accuracy except for one or two really off this world ones. Some might say aliens made the charts for those.
This was doable if you got into the dnb state of mind in phrasing and shit:
Koreans trying to be cool Japanese. The english lyrics on the silly songs are absolutely worth it to get the first edition for psp :)

DDR was pretty sick. I bought this hard core metal dance mat but haven't been using it since I moved to a flat.

Did you play it on a mat or KB rex? I've seen it can even top DJ max in ridiculousness with a keyboard and custom charts...

Can't wait for the new DJ max for Vita. Though seems likely they've changed the mechanism too much and it's not fun anymore.

I'm a DDR freak with a keyboard, mostly use stepmania. Can pass some 9 footers with a mat but that's about it.

What do you mean by a 9 footer?

The number of foot thingies below the graph like here:

It indicates the difficulty level of a song, on the original DDR 10 was the limit I think, on stepmania they're unlimited.

Aaah, right! Of course, forgot about the grading system.

I was never that good on the dance mat, I think. 8 might have been my limit, and even then I had to basically hold on to the bar and tap my toes as fast as possible  :-DD
