The thing I love most about this review is its obvious its coming from a music lover.  I'd read something like this over most any audio site review any day of the week.

Got to play with this thing a bit using the UERM and ODAC>Leckerton UHA6Smk2.  Some impressions:

Bright, harsh, distorted muddled mess.  You can hear it try to round out certain areas but it just makes a mess of things collapsing all the air.  Forget about imaging, there isn't any.  Horribly fatiguing and unenjoyable for me.  Was fine on bypass but horrid once engaged.  I'd be curious to know what the output impedance is.

I am now officially dubbing the 'Reveel' the 'Conceel'.

Thanks so much for your thoughtful impressions.  I have heard the BSG qol and it impressed, but I couldnt justify the expense. Your thoughts have persuaded me to give the headphone version a try. A question if I may - with the unit in bypass, did things sound just the same - that is, you were still getting all the benefits of the Resonessence Herus at the same volume? And also, the qol varies greatly in the increased volume it brings depending on individual recordings. Is that the case here as well. Thanks.

I don't recall hearing major differences, but I wasn't focusing on that aspect. When I get it back (hopefully today), I will look into that.

Reveel is consistently 2-3 dB.

I think it's worth the $100 just to play around with.  Look at how much fun people are having talking about it. Is that a reasonable proposition?

I'd say so.  I think it's impossible to predict up-front how any particular person will react to it.  I'm still not sure whether I'm going to end up using it on a regular basis, but I absolutely don't regret spending the $120.

It requires a computer I think, but there is also Darin Fong Audio "Out Of Your Head" product which seems to be about $130 ($99 if discounted) which I though was very good.

tested the darin fong software but it's not available (yet) for the apple eco(n)system. seemed fiddly, and I'm not sure how many custom systems it will accommodate.

as for the reveel, I ordered one when it first became available, and then it ended up lying around on my desk for a couple of months, but it did in the end find a place in a travel rig. not as bad as anax makes it seem, IMHO - but not good enough to replace other gadgets in the regular rotation.

yet, on certain trips I won't bring my best IEMs or best portable sources, nor even one of my portable amps - I just use the reveel with my phone or an iPad or even my laptop. sometimes I take it for a dog-walk. it does something interesting, especially to non-high-res files; and I don't regret buying it.
