9/11 truthers can't handle the truth
« on: February 03, 2014, 05:02:24 PM »

Awhile back, Dale Thorn came on here and started spouting all sort of conspiratorial nonsense about 9/11 and other historical events.  At the time, I was planning on writing a response but he got himself banned by the powers that be too quickly and the thread got buried by more topical concerns related to audio.

This weekend a "truther" snuck into a press conference for the Seahawks at the Superbowl and started spewing more 9/11 conspiracy gibberish right next to the site of 9/11 before he was arrested for trespassing and bypassing security.  In response, I decided to link an issue from Popular Mechanics including substantive and comprehensive response from actual experts who studied the event and have the actual expertise to translate the evidence and facts.  It should reveal how biased, selective and small the mindset of most conspiracy theorists actually are.  They are inherently egocentric and narcissistic because they feel they are the sole authorities of truth, and look to put themselves up front against the world as purveyors of knowledge no one else has.  Perhaps this is why the truther conspiracy is so prevalent in France.

Bear in mind, the "truther" analysis of various engineering, military, and political aspects, etc. was largely selectively manufactured from an MIT grad who studied Biology.  Hmm...

I only put this out there as a foil against the plethora of internet crazies in a world that perverts noble concepts such as truth by labeling themselves as "truthers" to hide their ignorance of the facts and other insecurities.  It really just looks bad when you have to disguise yourself with a virtue.

Virtue is best practised and worst preached.

Please do not pay too much attention to 'truthers'. There is too much hype in this world anyway.

I remember a year or so ago somebody I know was saying it was an inside job etc.  I told him about the pop sci study that debunked a bunch of their talking points and the convo went something like:
"Ya but who did the study?"
"I dunno a group of scientists"
"Scientists?? Pfft.  Ya like I'm gonna believe a scientist.  Of course they're gonna say that stuff."

I just kinda stood there in disbelief.  He was so quick to listen to a high schooler with a website and spooky background music for two hours with a clear agenda to push but not scientists who would actually have more to gain if they sided with the truthers.

You should have started him on the dihydrogen monoxide conspiracy!

I'd be interested to know, what if it's really a conspiracy, would it make any difference today? I mean, like, yeah, u got me, we cheated, and so?

And somehow people keep on treating the gov like an individual. In fact, I believe a gov is a group of individuals with individual priorities and personalities. How could a group of people who know something beforehand would keep quiet and waiting for it to happen (even allowing it, some claimed)? Look at all those undercover who exposed their own agencies nowadays, and we believe there ain't even something like that during that time? Hmmm...

Uhm, are you serious?  The suggestion that it wouldn't make a difference today (if true) is as nutty as the conspiracy theory itself.  Do you not remember the existential crisis this country went through as a result of 9/11?  Can you not imagine what it would be like (even now, 12.5 years later) if it somehow turned out to be true that forces in the government (elected officials, bureaucrats, military) were responsible?  Do you seriously think it wouldn't make a difference today?  And not to get into semantics, but if true, are you actually equating what they did to "cheating"?

And somehow people keep on treating the gov like an individual. In fact, I believe a gov is a group of individuals with individual priorities and personalities. No credible person believes in the 9/11 conspiracy theory (or any conspiracy theory of substance, for that matter).  There's no need to provide a rational explanation for how it couldn't happen.  The mere absence of whistleblowers is not what makes this conspiracy idiotic -- it's just idiotic on its own merit.

Please tread carefully in this issue.

These kind of topics usually lead to my truth/source/revelation/evidence/etcetera is-better-than-yours-discussions.

What happened on 9-11 was tragic for the victims. Circumstances and coincidences not withstanding the fact the people died due to an attack on the U.S. is all that is certain.

I agree w/ givemevinyl.  If a conspiracy of this magnitude were real, you'd see most from the left and right unify together and the death penalty would likely be invoked, massive restructuring and change would be made, maybe for the better, maybe not.  The fact of the matter is there is simply no credible evidence to support the hypothesis and the mathematical probablity of pulling such a scheme of this magnitude off only to have testimony from the likes of one person who might have thought they saw a bulge on the bottom of an airplane from two miles away is ridiculously weak.

I hope anyone that comments in this thread actually reads the link I posted which debunks most if not all of the claims of these nuts.  Please don't start up any flaming if you aren't familiar with the evidence and arguments related to the topic.

For those interested in such things, here's a decent read about the recent glorified whistleblowers.  A little left on the bias but nothing that can't be filtered.
