Thank you for your take!

How big are the cups compared to say the M50s? I'm trying to find a more portable complement to the Paradox.

If they are the same size as the One, they are smaller than M50. M50 is pretty large for a 'portable' headphone though. Not sure I'd wear that in public.

M50 is more portable than the paradox.

No, coiled cables are practical and less likely to get tangled. For portable full size headphones a coiled cables is also what I prefer nowadays.

Personally, I consider there to be two different classes of portable headphones: commuter and adventurer.

Then there are 'transportable' headphones. These are headphones you can easily store away to take with you to a hotel room or something but ultimately don't lend themselves to use while on the go. I'd classify the Spirit Classic in this category, as it has a ridiculous 300 foot long cord (okay, a slight exaggeration) and the finish doesn't look that resistant to abuse.

As for portable stuff...

Commuter 'phones are those I'm comfortable wearing on the way to work and don't mind use around campus, stuff that's comfortable while out 'n' about but in low impact contexts. The M50 and Paradox push the limits of this, bordering on 'transportable,' but they still work pretty well in these roles for me. Even though the Spirit Professional is smaller and lighter than both the M50 and Paradox, I'd include it in this category for a different reason: because it doesn't seem that rugged.

By contrast adventurer 'phones are those I wouldn't mind wearing while exploring the city, going on long walks through treacherous terrain, or fighting sword wielding skeletons. They have to be rugged, able to withstand abuse AND lightweight, small, easy to tote around. The Amperior would be in this category. Maybe the Sony 1R as well.

I mostly talk about music there. Weird.

In case you didn't notice, Tyll posted about the Pro and Classic in his February Innerfidelity update:

Measurements look good, and his first impressions are very positive. I would love to try them out, but I'm worried they'd be too small and uncomfortable for long-term listening sessions.

I too find them very neutral. For me the sound quality is slightly better than the HP50 in every way other than detail retrieval.

I think they fit a bit too tighty on the head, though. Sometimes I hear my heart beat. That might be a good thing (well, not the heart beat) in a pro environment, but I find them uncomfortable on my head for long listening sessions. OTOH, they do seem to be breaking in a bit so it's kind of a wait and see thing.

Review very soon, but I think they'll make the WoF.

I'm curious about the earpad opening.  How does it compare to other well-known closed over-ears?  I guess my point of reference would be the M50, which I find to be the bare minimum for size.
