RD's T50RP mod v0.5
« on: February 23, 2012, 11:28:51 PM »

RD's T50RP mod v0.5 (in progress) compared to Paradox s/n #001

Uncompensated FR graph.

Uneven treble response is caused by removing the stock "tissue" behind the driver (and replacing it with something else.) Personally, I recommend leaving the driver alone. This is one of few tips I will ever offer as I already know too much. Upon hearing, I thought the dip at 4k was wider from 2-5k. The 10k peak was very evident.

Looks like someone found a good absorbing material.

 :o

That's a damn good job! Congrats to RD.

I bet most people would be unable to differentiate the two.

A tip of my hat to you, good sir!  8)

Yep. I'd be ecstatic if mine looked that good. Hemholtz dildo FTW.

What do peaks sound like anyway?

Thanks!

FYI they aren't finished I only sent them with Marv since he was here in person.  They still need a few tweaks.  :-)  But good to see that they are measuring in the ballpark!

i'm curious. is beyond 14k a driver limitation? every mod i see no matter what is used seems to take pretty gentle dive after 10k. i know with most headphones that it's usually done on purpose to take a dive after 10k but i guess it can be driver limitations as well.

I think it is a driver limitation.

All orthos seem to have this limitation. I'm sure there is a way to boost that range but do you really want to?

Amazing... So these are the workings of the magical craft foam?... So you guys managed to even up the bass response without removing the vent felt or sealing the vents completely?

It's the workings of a number of things ;-)  The craft foam is great for resonances in the cup back, but it isn't enough.  I'll probably post my mod soonish, it's a unique mod to LFF's, we didn't share notes, but we do seem to share the same general goal and preferences.

LFF's are completely sealed and totally closed back, mine have the vent fully open (but with stock felt in place).  So sealing/not sealing isn't a necessity, it depends on how you're tuning them.  Closed has it's advantages for isolation, but the more open back an ortho is the bigger your soundstage will be in general.  Of course there's other things that effect that as well.

The only thing to avoid with the T50rp is this kind of mentality:
