:)p13 Well, regarding your previous post... Three stars doesn't exactly say "not shit" in the minds of many people. I think your O2 review was a 5 star one... But not everyone has the same priorities, and points of reference.

At the time I heard the Vali, I could only evaluate it with humble cans like my HD558, an SR60 and my KSC-75s, vs a Focusrite 2i2.

The Vali didn't transform my HD558s into an Orpheus rig, or into airline free-buds. But they did sound different relative to what I was used to. The bass felt more detailed and with more extension. It also seemed to bring a slight amount of aggressiveness to the cans. Much more engaging. I liked the HD558 + Vali synergy. And IMO it also measured well.

I dunno about the O2. I will try it eventually. It's obviously not everyone's cup tea though. Haven't heard the Headroom Micro Dac & Amp either, but I'm really curious about that one actually.

Yeah O2 was 5 star, but it's not perfect despite that rating. Can anyone do better for it's price? I'm not sure if it's possible. There is the Magni but I found mine to be a tad too bright (early version). O2 was slightly better. Micro was down to $250 and it sounds better than both and has better build quality and more inputs/features. I paid $350 and felt it was worth every penny. It makes total sense why some may not like it's sound. I would say it's stock PS holds it back slightly but I won't go there. The Asgard 1/2 sounded like poop in comparison (sorry!).

Maybe someday i'll figure out why my HD-650 sounded weird with the Vali. Seriously I tried 7 pieces of my crappy sources with all sorts of different signatures.

Strangely enough i'm one of those weirdos who felt the Vali didn't add a single thing to how my Q701/K400 normally sounds. And no, it's not the same as how it sounds on an O2, but close  :)

Stop buying 5-10 pieces of mid low to lower-fi gear.  Sell all but one or two pieces and start getting real reference gear so at least you can have an authoritative frame of reference.  It's also a waste of time, money and effort if you think about it.  Obviously your O2 and other gear didn't make a persuasive argument to be the be all end all of amps, so maybe time to raise the bar.

Yep. Plus it'll help clean up all the mind-numbing redundancy of his wall of text posts hopefully.

Think of it as positive criticism, t-dock.  :&

Anyone with a K400 or K500 knows the good AKG-sound.

The older AKGs are in a class of their own.

I like wall-o-text posts from people. If people don't like reading my comments they can choose to ignore them.
Far better than "this is the real deal" and "this is the schiit" one sentence Vali impressions. Those are more a waste of time IMO.
The best AMP reviews/impressions are always fairly long and very in-depth.

I honestly don't need any constructive criticism, but thanks. I post for fun and in my own free time and am not going to edit myself just to please other people.

I like talking about everything I try even if I ramble on a bit..I'm not writing a book here.

@tdockweiler
The more often you post your point-of-view does not make your point-of-view better or more valid. I'd rather trust a one-sentence suggestion by sombeody like Marv over walls of text from people whose expertise I do not trust. I have had my fair share of this. Just don't get on people's nerves by posting the same stuff all  over again.

Fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. Holy Schiit fantastic. This is tubes done right. We are talking about expansive soundstage, tube clarity, tube microdynamics, tube microdetail, tube dynamics and slam. (Yes, all the things which folks who haven't heard good tube amps don't think tubes sound like.) The first time I heard this, I almost pee'd in my pants. An amp this cheap shouldn't sound this good.

Not exactly one sentence, but still rather short and informative  :)p8

I really like the Schiit Vali, in my opinion it pairs well with the HD650's. Granted I haven't had the privilege of listening to higher-end amps, but for the price, this amp to me is excellent. I went from a FiiO E09K and at first I didn't notice much of a difference. After just a few days the differences started to become very clear. While for the price the FiiO E09K is a nice solid-state amp, the Vali is just wonderful, at least for the HD650's and DT 990 pros IMO.
