Looking for a solution (mixing digital signals)
« on: November 22, 2013, 07:39:09 AM »

I'm looking to set up a digital switch/mixer to connect a few game consoles and a portable media player (FiiO X3 optical out) to a DAC/amp. So far I've found a few cheapo DJ mixers, but none of them have more than one digital input. A PC would work but I'd like a less intensive intermediary. Something which would mix two digital channels while allowing volume adjustment for either one. Preferably under $500. Any suggestions?

Do you think there may be an acoustic leak from the jack hole? ~Tyll Hertsens

Not sure if I like stuffing one hole or both holes. Tending toward one hole since both holes seems kinda ghey ~Purrin

Thanks but I'm looking for first and foremost a mixer of digital signals, a switcher on top would be nice but not necessary. The goal here is to combine game audio (in an FPS basically just the announcer and environmental effects) with music from a different source.

The only other way I can think to implement it is to add an expensive pro external soundcard to connect to a laptop, then output to DAC. Only that setup would be a bit cumbersome and still require the proper card/interface.

Roland M1000 digital mixer, if you can still find them around. Try to find one on flea-bay. If not, I'll send you one of mine.

I'll just ship one to you along with everything else I need to get back you. The only thing that sucks is USB requires XP drivers (Roland never updated the drivers) but there are a ton of coax and one toslink input.

I have no idea why Roland discontinued this unit. It was one of the best things ever.

Thanks! The feature set looks awesome. I went through all of Roland's/Behringer's/etc. products and they have nothing to fill that niche outside of multi-thousand dollar consoles. Especially surprising given the iPod generation DJ market.
