I have the correct plugs.  I just don't know which pins are R, L, G.

Process of elimination? Just send out six cables and have them keep the right one and return the rest.

My bet's on the same arrangement as that mini-xlr they use on the 702. Let me know if I win, daddy needs a new cable to flip to the HF schmoops.

AKG has good service documentation on their pro gear. Too bad they haven't posted the K812 documentation yet.

Curse you all, I have K812s coming today, although because God hates me, I was able to get the pinout of the K812 at the Austin meet, which took place the day after I ordered the K812.

Impressions to follow.  I built them a cable with my Fusion wire (each strands half copper litz, half silver litz).  Lots of people don't like these cans and say they're harsh.

I liked what I heard from these at the Austin meet. Still not up to par with HD800 due to the angled drivers, but given their last 'TOTL' was the K701, I was pleasantly surprised by the K812. AKG is relevant again.

What headphone (or cross between which headphones) would you liken its sound signature / presentation to?

I have a WA6 coming for these as they're mandatorily single ended, WA3 is for sale, their impedance is too low to really drive them well with OTL.

They sound a bit like HD800 but a few rows back, not quite as in-your face and ethereal.  But you do get these really nice layers and realistic cues that I don't hear often with other headphones.  These headphones have serious potential.

I haven't used the stock cable with them yet though, built a few cables for them, using an OCC silver litz one right now.

HD800 complete with the tendency to be bright. Those who mod the HD800 might have to mod the K812, but I don't mod the HD800 and found the K812 treble to be fine. I only listened for a few minutes so I don't know the full extent of their sound, but I would say they are on par with HD800s in many aspects. They are very comfortable and light. The main problem is their lack of angled drivers to give me that great soundstage I'm used to with the HD800. I had hoped AKG would have mated the K701 and K1000 so they would have a somewhat bright, analytical headphone (K701) mixed with angled drivers giving great soundstage (K1000) in a package similar to the HD800 (not the monstrosity the K1000 was).
