Not to be rude with anyone but how the heck did we go from audiophile MP3 players to Android powered handhelds?

I think so many people, including myself, have been conditioned to just accept faulty products as it is and justify it by any stupid reason we can find. I myself just don't give a shit anymore and don't expect anything better from anyone nowadays. That's why I've stepped down from high end stuff to just the basics, even accepting my iPhone as a compromise since I probably can't even tell the difference between my phone and the DX50 when I'm outside. I know this doesn't mean the companies should get away with all their bs, but it's something we can't really change anymore so I've given up. Fuggit, if it plays music and sounds acceptable, and is relatively inexpensive, whatever.

I blame greed for money and profit. Shoot an earlier release to cut into Fiio and iRiver current sales! Screw the UI, kids will just accept it if the hardware is good! We'll just keep releasing multiple firmware updates like we always do! Screw testing these backordered JH3A amps, just send them out already, these kids waiting another 3 months without notice will like the sound enough to disregard the massive pop at start up and constant hissing!

I just want out of this hobby at this point. Time to get into shoes! Saint Crispin's and Gaziano & Girling gogogo.

UPDATE

After some debating on my part I decided to try and be progressive about the situation and give iBasso the benefit of a doubt. I sent my player back this past Friday and have asked for an exchange. Who knows, maybe I'll be surprised and the user experience won't be such a turd. My main gripe was USB connectivity problems making it hard to update. If this problem is fixed it would go a long way towards softening my view on the matter. I'll keep you guys informed on how all this pans out.

It's now been two weeks since I posted my rant video. As of this afternoon my views has broken 1000 viewers which, for my channel, is a crazy number if views in only two weeks. Seems like the traffic hasn't slowed down much and the word seems to be spreading

Well it seemed like your specific problem was not common so we'll see how it turns out. I don't find the quirks of the DX50 too bothersome though it has many flaws. It was kind of painful without language support though, as you had mentioned in your video. 90% of my music is Korean... Glad they got that sorted out on FW 1.2.0

Thanks , we'll see what happens. Hopefully I don't wind up coming back here ranting like a loon again. The DX50 is a decent enough sounding player that I thought it was worth a second shot

Your ranting is good. I don't think there are folks here against that. And I think it's appreciated in this case because several people were interested in the DX50. I'm always disturbed at how complaining at HF about poor customer service, product glitches, etc. seem to be shouted down by the fanboys. This stuff ain't cheap and nothing short of exceptional customer service / glitch free operation should be acceptable.

Hi DigitalFreak,

Thanks for the video review you posted.

To be honest, I'm quite surprised iBasso covered the $70 return shipping to China, I think that's pretty impressive service.

When it comes to Chinese DAP's, I take really glitchy UI for granted, I literally expect spending $200+ and getting a broken UI which has little interest in concepts like album art.

I've never been spoiled by the fluid UI of an iPod or Sony Z1070, I've used basic UI my whole life so it's easy for me.

It took 14 minutes+ in your yt review until you said anything at all about how it sounds by the way.

Anyway, I think most people expect a fluid UI and a flawless experience, since that's what they're used to and expect for the money, that's fine, however as you and Purrin have now noted the DX100 and DX50 simply don't deliver that.

I think iBasso has made two very popular and well received amplifiers however, which are the iBasso P4 Warbler and the iBasso PB2 Pelican.

Connecting a SanDisk Clip+ with a 32GB SD card to one of these two players is an easy and flawless portable rig.  Not a DAP per se, but it's close enough.  I have around 10 portable amplifiers and the P4 Warbler is the only one I ever use in practice these days, it's a great product but the stock config of op-amps was weird.
Not sure what the stock config is in the Pelican but I see people filling it with the included AD797's.

An AD797 Pelican with a Clip+ seems like a terrific alternative to the DX50.  Just sayin'.
