Good to see I'm not the only person on here interested in the new upcoming Sony flagship DAP. I wish it had expandable storage but if the sound is killer and the UI is fluid then all will be forgiven.

Don't like most of "high-end" daps also. There is a rich modding community on local forums however, and some very nice designs. But in stock form, I did not find anything worth getting so far. And buying already not-so-cheap device to make someone mod it.. Well, I tried, but in the end I'm back to Iphone. Did not audition to Ibasso 100 long enough, but from 5-mins listening it was not bad. Like, colorfly pro is much worse in my opinion. But, uhg, android, and its "power-efficiency"...
Only hope so far is for HIFI-ET MA9\MA8, some people said its quite nice overall. Like, not much left to mod at this designs. And I did not heard much about bugs so far, not that I dig in that however. Just waiting if some will pop nearby to play with it myself.

I'm still wondering if these Sony devices could "read" an SD card through the WM-port with some use of a connector... That would be sweet! But 128GB for their new player is enough for me (and it looks excellent!).

Anyway, I already mentioned how I hate all of these "boutique" players with crappy UI, etc. and still, I just ordered a FiiO X3 just for the heck of it... Will probably get a 7th gen iPod as well and will compare it with my "crappy" Cowon C2 player (I want to get a D50... updated JetEffects and 90 hour battery life -- so I will at least get a full week at work when using it! ;)).

@DF: About the stack thing, don't know if you've read but iOS7 allows for the ipod touch and iphones to be connected directly to portable usb DACs via the USB adapter/CCK. So you can potentially get rid of the CLAS by connecting to a UHA6 or Pico etc. So far I've only used devices with lightning ports to test but posts on HF indicate the 30-pin models are capable of it too.

I totally get your point though; been burned by purchasing an Sflo2 in the past. I was lucky enough to have auditioned the Studio V before buying and I had a ton of usability issues with the thing. Fiio's X3 is probably the most usable of the bunch but it doesn't actually have "audiophile" sound quality.

Thanks for the heads up, I know but I'm not crazy about using the CCK kit when running around. I've used it on my iPad mini at home with my Leckerton with nice results. The truth is i just wish there was a one box solution on the market that worked as advertised.

well, the AK120 does sound marvellous. if only it wasn't so expensive... :P
either way, it's the only really good one I've heard. AK100 was good too, but not great.

I missed this.  I'll have to break out the Pico and see how it works.

What I don't understand is why do the boutique DAP makers not just go with Android for their devices? Its an open source OS, why not use it? That would solve the issue of poor firmware quality and additionally, it would make the DAPs infinitely more useful, with the possibility to use Android apps to extend functionality. IMO it is not too much to ask for a dedicated music player to be able to stream DLNA or Spotufy in 2013 and none of the boutique DAPs have this functionality. Well, except for Cowon (but those are old) and Sony is releasing some interesting DAPs with Android as well.

My worry is that Android is a lot like Windows in that it just kinda does lots of random shit whenever it feels like it. I know people were having problems with dropouts and such from the DX100 because the Play Store or whatever decided it wanted to do something at some random moment. On a phone this isn't a problem, the worst thing that can happen is your game might become unresponsive for a second or two while a background process does its thing. When you're listening to 24/192 on high-end headphones, it's a big problem.

I don't really want my high-end DAP to be an iPod, if I wanted that I'd buy an iPod and strap an amp to it. I want a low latency, dedicated OS that does one thing and does it well.

Sony is doing a great job implementing Andriod OS on their DAPs.  The current F & Z series are very responsive with the F being better.  Ibasso did such a bad job integrating Andriod 2.3 onto the DX100; hence, endless complaints from the DX100 owners regarding bugs & the unit froze up.  I once owned the DX100 and really like the sound...only to sell it later b/c of UI and unresponsiveness.
